Historia
When your faith as you know it has been commodified, nationalized, scandalized, and rebranded beyond recognition, is it even possible to recover the "good" of Jesus from this cluster of epic proportions? Writer and podcaster Erin Moon has questions, and this book is her open letter for anyone who feels iffy, conflicted, or just downright devastated by this disconnect. With empathy, insight, and the therapy of memes and a good laugh, Erin maps out not a rigid prescription but an open-hearted pathway for you to reclaim what you once loved about your faith home and light a match to the rest.

I appreciate Erin’s encouragement and openness to questions and honesty. There’s no blame or shame is seeking Biblical truth.

It's a crazy idea: trying to name the phrases that make love and connection possible. But that's just what Kelly Corrigan has set out to do here. In her New York Times best-selling memoirs, Corrigan distilled our core relationships to their essences, showcasing a warm, easy storytelling style. Now, in Tell Me More, she's back with a deeply personal, unfailingly honest, and often hilarious examination of the essential phrases that turn the wheel of life.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 05-08-24
After hearing the author on a podcast, I was under the impression that the book was about ways to facilitate communication. Was I disappointed! It is more of a personal memoir on how the author was eventually “enough.” I kept listening hoping to get to the part that I thought would be helpful. Had I known it was a memoir, which I didn’t find particularly interesting or helpful, I would not have finished the book and could ask for my Audible credit back.

Historia
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Historia
In the current period of social and political unrest, conversations about identity are becoming more frequent and more difficult. On subjects like critical race theory, gender equity in the workplace, and LGBTQ-inclusive classrooms, many of us are understandably fearful of saying the wrong thing. Kenji Yoshino and David Glasgow, founders of the Meltzer Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at NYU School of Law, are here to show potential allies that these conversations don’t have to be so overwhelming.

Shows we are all human, and many of want to be kind and accepting and say the right thing in a beneficial way. If we mess up, admit it, learn from it, and do better next time.

There is so much more than what I'm settling for! That was the revelation about God that changed Jeannie Cunnion's life and lit a fire in her soul. Jeannie was surprised to realize that even though she had been following Jesus for more than 35 years as a preacher's kid and Bible teacher, she was missing out on all of God.

Audio readers miss out on some of the content
Revisado: 09-28-21
Although I enjoyed this book and it definitely was a good reminder of many helpful things, I am disappointed that the Audible version did not include an accompanying PDF of the study questions nor the Spiritual Gifts survey mentioned in the book. I do plan on listening to the book again, but I am disappointed for those who learn through auditory means are encumbered with more work and replays to write down the questions for study and reflection.
