Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

A Real Drag
Revisado: 02-11-25
I disliked this book. I read approximately a book a week totaling at least 55-69 books a year. I felt that this book was a waste of my time. I did not like the characters. The plot was slow and sad.

Upstanding and Decent
Revisado: 06-22-24
This is the 2nd book that I have read about George H.W Bush. I learned a bit more about his early life and what influenced his development. He was competitive but kind
seemingly his whole life. I saw little flashes of his heritage come through as well.
I appreciated knowing more about roles he accepted once he began his political career.
He sure was not entitled or a whiner. The Grand Old Party used to contain a majority of decent citizens with varying beliefs. It helped a lot to have open minded leaders.
What a large disappointed it was to see how the Republican Party began to corrode by an ultra right faction in the 1980’s. I learned a few names in this book of people responsible. I know the intent of this book was to praise Bush not spotlight evil influence. I did nod my head at how this developed. What a pity people were not paying attention.
I really enjoyed this book and hope thousands of young people read it, especially young military men and women

Aging again

I am 78. I noticed more and more books about elderly characters merging with young often times troubled teens.
I stopped listening to this audible after 4 chapters.
There has to be a more unique storyline.

Historia
In An Irish Country Christmas, the third book in Patrick Taylor's Irish Country Books, Barry Laverty, M.B., is looking forward to his first Christmas in the cozy village of Ballybucklebo, at least until he learns that his sweetheart, Patricia, might not be coming home for the holidays. That unhappy prospect dampens his spirits somewhat, but Barry has little time to dwell on his romantic disappointments. Christmas may be drawing nigh, but there is little peace to be found on earth, especially for a young doctor plying his trade in the emerald hills and glens of rural Ireland.

A Very Cozy Tale
Revisado: 12-14-23
I have read or listened to all of the Irish Country Books by Patrick Taylor. They are full of colorful descriptions of people and the endearing village. I honestly love the way each story makes me feel at home.
The characters are grand!

My grandson and I listened to Golden Gate together in the car as we commuted between home to summer classes, golf lessons. and home again. We made lots of trips which gave us a chance to hear several chapters at a time
This was our 5th or 6th audio (audible) book we enjoyed together. It was our favorite by far! We gladly gave it 5 stars!

So states one Secret Service agent, just a small link in the chain of security that has guarded the public image of the presidency and the men who define it - until now. With unprecedented access to Secret Service agents, domestic servants, Air Force One stewards, and military aides, journalist Ronald Kessler has gone behind the scenes to uncover the inside story of the White House.

I did not expect that this audible story was one bit of gossip after another. Maybe it is true. Most likely some of it is.
I found it to be a waste of my time. I stopped listening part way through. Be warned.

Historia
Why did Agatha Christie spend her career pretending that she was "just" an ordinary housewife, when clearly she wasn't? Lucy Worsley's biography is not just of a massively, internationally successful writer. It's also the story of a person who, despite the obstacles of class and gender, became an astonishingly successful working woman. With access to rarely seen personal letters and papers, Lucy Worsley's biography is both authoritative and entertaining and makes us realize what an extraordinary pioneer Agatha Christie was—truly a woman who wrote the twentieth century.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 02-16-23
I have never read an Agatha Christie mystery. The reason that I listened to this audible book about Agatha Christie was do to Lucy Worsley’s reputation of telling a thoroughly good story. I really enjoyed learning about the famous author. Now, I need to read some of Christie’s books and download some of her movies.

Book Club Favorite
Revisado: 08-20-22
Some of our book group members thought that Tapestry started off choppy
as various characters were introduced. Personally, I had no complaints about
the first part of the book. We all really enjoyed the book very much, because of
interesting characters and vivid imagery . We all wanted a grandmother like
Sparrow! The plot was fresh.
The book will appeal to women of all ages.

Historia
Before there was "tourism" and souvenir ashtrays became "kitsch", the Lake of the Ozarks was a Shangri-La for middle-class Midwestern families on vacation, complete with man-made beaches, Hillbilly Mini Golf, and feathered rubber tomahawks. It was there that author Bill Geist spent summers in the '60s during his school and college years working at Arrowhead Lodge - a small resort owned by his bombastic uncle - in all areas of the operation, from cesspool attendant to bellhop.

I had such high hopes for this story. It did not appeal to me, a 76 year old woman who grew up in Michigan. Maybe it would appeal to folks who grew up in the 1940’s in Missouri.
