Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

This book was beautiful, sad, and sometimes anger inducing but most of all, powerful. The underlying theme of love was a beautiful thread through the entire story. A must read!

I was drawn to the word anarchy, it automatically prepared me for the hell that would break loose. So perfect
Revisado: 07-04-24
Initially I was put off by the new narrator. Each character had a voice already and I didn’t want their voices to change but I must say, Ms Erivo did a masterful job! The story itself was beautifully written, flowed seamlessly from one event to the next and there was a natural progression of characters and growth within each. The way she writes is so touching and the words are poetry. I enjoyed this story and the entire series. It ended well and it made sense. Good job!!

Beautifully written and narrated. I was taken in from the opening sentence. I found myself missing the characters during the day. And to know that this reflects real experiences of women across the US made it even more special of a read. Nicely done.

Revisado: 12-05-21
I don't frequently give book reviews but this one deserved a five star review. First the speaker, perfect. I love the way Nigerians sound when speaking English. It sounds very musical to me and she changed her tone and inflections perfectly to capture men and women throughout the book. Superb! The story line was the standard character build, meet a hardship, fight through to overcome hardship, then triumph, storyline but it was engaging and kept me dialed in until the end. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well rounded and well developed. I know that a book is good when I find myself missing the characters. I'm missing Aduni! Again, great book. Did not disappoint.

Historia
Hortensia James and Marion Agostino are neighbours. One is black, one white. Both are successful women with impressive careers. Both have recently been widowed. And both are sworn enemies, sharing hedge and hostility and pruning both with a vim and zeal that belie the fact that they are over 80. But one day an unforeseen event forces the women together. And gradually the bickering and sniping soften into lively debate, and from there into memories shared.

Revisado: 03-31-17
This book wasn't what I expected based on the reviews. I'm still try to figure out what was the author's intention for writing this. There was no great lessons or beautiful relationship forged. Just two grouchy women that grew to be grouchy friends. Waste of a credit

Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.
