Historia
A story of defiance and determination by a controversial scientist, this is Lee Berger's own take on finding Homo naledi, an all-new species on the human family tree and one of the greatest discoveries of the 21st century. In 2013, Lee Berger, a National Geographic explorer-in-residence, heard of a cache of bones in a hard-to-reach underground cave in South Africa. He put out a call around the world for petite collaborators - men and women small and adventurous enough to be able to squeeze through eight-inch tunnels to reach a sunless cave forty feet underground. It worked.

I loved every second of this book. The discoveries inside that cave bring so much insight into our origins, but the emphasis in this book is the passion. I could feel the excitement and adventure that they were experiencing. I love the opportunities that were offered to young scientists and the open access to data.

Historia
Based on 20 years of research and recently unearthed evidence, this is the remarkable new account of an essential piece of American mythology - the trial of Lizzie Borden. The Trial of Lizzie Borden tells the true story of one of the most sensational murder trials in American history. When Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally hacked to death in Fall River, Massachusetts, in August 1892, the arrest of the couple’s younger daughter Lizzie turned the case into international news and her trial into a spectacle unparalleled in American history.

Unlistenable

I could not listen to more than 5 minutes. The narration is a digital voice like you get when your car reads a text to you. The words sound fine, but the timing is awkward and too distracting for me. I returned it. I love Audible’s return policy!

This book delivers history, law, and the human faces of the most important Supreme Court ruling in my adulthood. The heartbreak that lead to this lawsuit shows the depths of love. I had goosebumps during the final chapters.

Historia
What is autism: a lifelong disability or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius? In truth, it is both of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it. Wired reporter Steve Silberman unearths the secret history of autism, long suppressed by the same clinicians who became famous for discovering it, and finds surprising answers to the crucial question of why the number of diagnoses has soared in recent years.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have recommended this book to at least 10 people in the last few weeks. The section on the historical treatment of people with autism was difficult and could be hard for a parent to hear, but the rest of the book provides insight into the gifts of the autistic mind. This book changed the way I view the role of neuro-diversity in our society.

Historia
Last seen sleeping off his wedding night in the back of a 1951 International Harvester pickup, Michael Perry is now living in a rickety Wisconsin farmhouse. Faced with 37 acres of fallen fences and overgrown fields, and informed by his pregnant wife that she intends to deliver their baby at home, Perry plumbs his unorthodox childhood - his city-bred parents took in more than 100 foster children while running a ramshackle dairy farm - for clues to how to proceed as a farmer, a husband, and a father.

Historia
At the height of World War II, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was home to 75,000 residents, consuming more electricity than New York City. But to most of the world, the town did not exist. Thousands of civilians - many of them young women from small towns across the South - were recruited to this secret city, enticed by solid wages and the promise of war-ending work. Kept very much in the dark, few would ever guess the true nature of the tasks they performed each day in the hulking factories in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I have read a great deal on this era, and expected this book to bring me a perspective of the women involved, but I felt that the focus was more on the project, and not on the women. Overall, I would say that this is worth a listen, and definitely good if you are just entering this area of history.

Historia
On June 14, 1940, German tanks entered a silent and nearly deserted Paris. Eight days later, France accepted a humiliating defeat and foreign occupation. Subsequently, an eerie sense of normalcy settled over the City of Light. Many Parisians keenly adapted themselves to the situation - even allied themselves with their Nazi overlords. At the same time, amidst this darkening gloom of German ruthlessness, shortages, and curfews, a resistance arose.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
I was expecting a book that I could not wait to listen to each time I got in my car, but I was a bit disappointed. I feel that the book lacked a personal perspective and felt too broad. Moments within it had a personal touch, but overall, it was faceless.

Historia
Best-selling author Mary Roach returns with a new adventure to the invisible realm we carry around inside. Roach takes us down the hatch on an unforgettable tour. The alimentary canal is classic Mary Roach terrain: The questions explored in Gulp are as taboo, in their way, as the cadavers in Stiff and every bit as surreal as the universe of zero gravity explored in Packing for Mars. Why is crunchy food so appealing? Why is it so hard to find words for flavors and smells? Why doesn’t the stomach digest itself? How much can you eat before your stomach bursts?

Great info, but horrible narration
Revisado: 09-06-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
As always, Mary Roach did her research and provided some very interesting information, but it wasn't her best work. It did not have the humor and bite that are characteristic of her books.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
The narrator gave each scientist interviewed a different accent, and it was distracting at best. I hated the narration so much that I would never recommend the audiobook. Get it in print, or as an ebook, instead.

An influential psychologist who is convinced that many important CEOs and politicians are, in fact, psychopaths teaches Ronson how to spot these high-flying individuals by looking out for little telltale verbal and nonverbal clues.

Sociopaths beware.
Revisado: 06-30-11
This book was informative and funny. Ronson details the sociopath test, and then takes you on a journey as he tests people of notoriety. His journey points out the difficulty and pitfalls of using the test, but leaves you with a new sense of power. More of an entertaining learning experience, than an acedemic study of the topic.
