Historia
Australia is known for its incredible natural beauty, great quality of life and multicultural society. If you’re planning a move ‘down under’ (for sometime after the pandemic, when borders are open again), blogger and teacher Courtney Alkek has some excellent advice to share. She and her husband moved to Australia from the USA. They’ve had two kids in the country, lived in two different cities: Brisbane and Adelaide, and they’re now going through the process of becoming Aussie citizens.

Historia
At the end of the 1980s, when the Cold War ended, many, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, believed that democracy had triumphed politically once and for all. Yet nearly 30 years later, the direction of history no longer seems certain. A repressive and destructive force has begun to reemerge on the global stage - sweeping across Europe, parts of Asia, and the United States - that to Albright, looks very much like fascism.

I go back to this book almost daily just to hear Madam Secretary’s reassuring voice exclamation I learned so much about the backgrounds of Mussolini and Hitler etc. in a story like history come alive way. Her portends are apparently coming alive as we watch the June 16 commission and hope Merrick Garland takes actions from their findings. As an aside it was thrilling to hear madams teaching style as it reminded me of being in College in the 70s! I truly hope students are being teached in her way now. Every educator would do well to read this book as well as everyone in the general public.

Historia
In this revelatory, unnerving, and ultimately hopeful book, Bremmer details how domestic and international conflicts leave us unprepared for a trio of looming crises—global health emergencies, transformative climate change, and the AI revolution. Today, Americans cannot reach consensus on any significant political issue, and US and Chinese leaders behave as if they’re locked in a new Cold War. We are squandering opportunities to meet the challenges that will soon confront us all.

This selection was the one I chose to teach me what is going on globally and the options we have for the future. This book suited all my needs. The narration was excellent which is something I looked to for every book I buy. The themes were clearly presented and followed through completely. I have always admired Mr. bremmer and his work.

Historia
This is the authoritative, “deeply reported” (The Wall Street Journal) account of an eighteen-month crisis in American democracy that will be seared into the country’s political memory for decades to come. With stunning, in-the-room detail, New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns show how both our political parties confronted a series of national traumas, including the coronavirus pandemic, the January 6 attack on the Capitol, and the political brinksmanship of President Biden’s first year in the White House.

This book managed to pull everything into perspective on both sides of the hill. It offered a fearsome warning of what is to come if we do not all take action. It did not go easy on the Democrats as well as exposing future republican plans that to this reader harbor real threats

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

The narration was poignant and so intense. The final chapter was so so surprising as I did not know Ibram Kendi's personal challenges ran so deep and that he would share those as transparently as he did his personal evolution with anti-racism. The entire experience moved my world.

Historia
In this unflinching exploration of corruption in America, Chayes exposes how corruption has thrived within our borders - from the titans of America's Gilded Age (Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, et al.) to the collapse of the stock market in 1929, the Great Depression, and FDR's New Deal; from Joe Kennedy's years of banking, bootlegging, machine politics, and pursuit of infinite wealth to the deregulation of the Reagan Revolution - undermining this nation's proud middle class and union members.

Historia
The Reckoning will examine America’s national trauma, rooted in our history but dramatically exacerbated by the impact of current events and the Trump administration’s corrupt and immoral policies. Our failure to acknowledge this trauma, let alone root it out, has allowed it to metastasize. Whether it manifests itself in rising levels of rage and hatred, or hopelessness and apathy, the stress of living in a country we no longer recognize has affected all of us. America is suffering from PTSD - a new leader alone cannot fix us.
