Historia
Tesser, the dragon of life itself, is one of seven: Earth’s primordial draconic guardians, destined to oversee its development and safety. Species rose and fell, and 10,000 years ago...Tesser disappeared. The golden dragon woke up this morning, buried deep beneath the city of Boston, with no idea how he got there, and no idea how humanity grew so fast and learned so much while he was away. He is lost, a fish out of water. Where is the magic? He’s got a lot of catching up to do if he’s going to find his missing sister and stop an incursion of daemons from beyond the Veil.

If bad language and vulgarity is your cup of tea, this is the book for you.
Revisado: 05-21-16
To be honest, I didn't get more than a couple of hours into this book before I just couldn't handle it anymore. The story might be good, but I can't tell past all the profanity and cringe-inducing vulgarity. Just... Yuck.

It really is a lead zeppelin...
Revisado: 09-28-12
Zeppelin, because the storyline was solid, interesting, and I found the main characters likeable and engaging. Unfortunately for me, this book is really more for the hard-core science sci-fi lover. If I had been reading this book, rather than listening to it, I'm certain I would have regularly skipped paragraph after paragraph of tedium. That being said, I'm not sorry I listened to it, as the story had enough uniqueness to it that I found myself discussing many of the concepts with my husband, who in turn enjoyed the ideas.
So, if you're into the "super science-y sci-fi", I'm sure you'll love this. If not, it is still a good story.

Historia
The human race is all but extinct after a war with Partials - engineered organic beings identical to humans - has decimated the population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by RM, a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island while the Partials have mysteriously retreated. The threat of the Partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to RM in more than a decade. Our time is running out.

Dystopian... on the rocks with a twist
Revisado: 09-28-12
A dystopian novel that stands out for it's surprising twists... The other reviewers mentioned the "surprise" in the novel, and I found myself thinking several times, "Aha! That's it!" But no, it's more a series of surprises that kept me distracted from the final, biggest surprise. Well written, well-developed characters, and the narration was easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this to others.
**Definitely YA-friendly! I don't remember much, if any, cussing, and there is no sexuality beyond a little kissing.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Engaging, Surprising, & a Satisfying End
Revisado: 09-28-12
I bought this while it was on sale, & I'm glad I did. I wasn't really sure where the story would take me, and was delightfully surprised along with the characters as their investigations deepened. The characters were well developed, and Porter did a great job with the voices, so that they were all easily distinguishable from one another. He also made it easy to picture the characters and events in my head. I would definitely recommend this to others.
**Not, however, for YA listeners. This novel has plenty of cussing in it, and even one (none too steamy) sex scene.

Historia
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Interesting, fast paced, and well-voiced
Revisado: 09-23-12
I've just finished listening to Delerium & Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver, and was looking for something in the same vein. What I found in Divergent & Insurgent was even better! I struggled a bit with not particularly liking the main character at first, but as the character developed, I found myself liking her more and more.
This series has it all: action, and lots of it, romance, and an overall story arc that gets bigger and bigger.

Historia
My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me. So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Some of the best writing in years... hands down!
Revisado: 09-23-12
I was eager to listen to book 2 of The Kingkiller Chronicles, having read the first, and I was not disappointed! Patrick Rothfuss once again turns out some of the best writing I've read/heard this decade, and the story does not disappoint. Nick Podehl's narration was also wonderful, each voice distinct and memorable.

Historia
Until the day I met John Smith, Number Four, I'd been on the run alone, hiding and fighting to stay alive. Together, we are much more powerful. But it could only last so long before we had to separate to find the others.... I went to Spain to find Seven, and I found even more, including a tenth member of the Garde who escaped from Lorien alive. Ella is younger than the rest of us, but just as brave. Now we're looking for the others - including John. But so are they....

So-so story, ruinous narration
Revisado: 09-01-12
Having read the previous two books, I was eager for the third installation. In the second book, the narrator's use of Sam's voice had him sounding just a few points above retarded. Sorry, but it's true. Nonetheless, I was interested enough in the story to spend a credit on this as soon as it came out.
Ugh.
The narration ruined what was probably a decent story, but I honestly just couldn't tell. The male voices were all caracitures. Awful. And *every* sentece was just *so* emphatic... Even going to the bathroom was a life or death situation... I'm shuddering as I think about it.
Awful.
**On the upside, there wasn't much profanity, & no sexual situations to bother younger readers.

Historia
"Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't."

Good, if not great.
Revisado: 08-03-12
I've listened to both books in this series, and will definitely listen to the third. That being said, I do hope she tones down the excessive introspection and reminiscing that seems to take over the main character at any given moment. As an adult, this did get tedious for me and I often found myself thinking, "Alright already, just get on with it!"
**However, be warned: this book does have scenes of mild sexuality (partial nudity, kissing) and cussing, including the "F-bomb."

Historia
I’m pushing aside the memory of my nightmare, pushing aside thoughts of Alex, pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school, push, push, push, like Raven taught me to do. The old life is dead. But the old Lena is dead too. I buried her.I left her beyond a fence, behind a wall of smoke and flame. Lauren Oliver delivers an electrifying follow-up to her acclaimed New York Times bests eller, Delirium. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, forbidden romance, and the sparks of a revolution about to ignite.

Strong story, good narration
Revisado: 08-03-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would, if that person were a teenager. There is still the ongoing dramatic introspection and over-thinking by the main character that I, as an adult, found tedious and melodramatic, but I suppose teenagers actually *do*...
What was one of the most memorable moments of Pandemonium?
The ending; not because I was in a hurry to get there, but it was exciting and left me eager to read the third book in the series.
Have you listened to any of Sarah Drew’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, and once again she delivers a good, if not great, listening experience. It may be that I would like her more if she were reading something less... melodramatic.
Any additional comments?
I usually listen to the Young Adult section to avoid anything inappropriate for teen listeners, as I usually listen in my car, which is often full of teens. Be warned, however, that this series does have some scenes of mild sexuality (partial nudity, kissing) and there is cussing, including the "F-bomb."
