Life is hard!! Even for the rich and famous
Revisado: 04-29-25
Sally spoke to me when talking about the abuse; however, it wasn't my father but a pig of an old man neighbor. I was in my 40s when I told my mom, turns out she suspected but didn't want to ask and "put ideas in your head." in my 50s I asked my sister if Bill ever touched her. She said once, but Bill's wife caught him and said "you can't have this one." So it turns out my mom suspected, the pig's wife knew, and nobody did anything. I wish I could say my life turned out like Sally's, but it didn't.

Historia
The Meyer family of Beaver Dam Wisconsin were not your run of the mill group of kin folk. Being the daughter of the infamous Ruth and Russell Meyer back in the 60’s was a roller coaster of fun times and tragic events. As children, we had the best times with dad. Fishing, skating, him bringing home a monkey, wrestling a bear, and finding humor in everyday functions such as farting. I have fond memories of him. My dad was a hilarious and lovable character. But when he was drinking, he became extremely violent.

Author is so wise
Revisado: 02-25-25
My family too went through many trials and tribulations, not due to drugs and alcohol, but mental illness. My mother had schizophrenia. Shelly is so right that every individual has their own story to tell, and the way one individual remembers an event may be very different than how someone else witnessing that same event remembers it (Shelly's bear story). The book is a very interesting listen, (Audible) and I know I'll listen to it again. Glad Shelly has found happiness, she deserves it.

The man who brought the kavorka to the Seinfeld show through one of the most remarkable and beloved television characters ever invented, Kramer, shares the extraordinary life of a comedy genius—the way he came into himself as an artist, the ups and downs as a human being, the road he has traveled in search of understanding.

sincerity, remorse, Cosmos Kramer
Revisado: 08-23-24
We've all said some things in anger that we can't take back, rang that bell that can't be unrung, but hopefully we try to redeem ourselves. I feel Michael Richards has been trying to redeem himself since that awful night. It seems most comedians have a sad story to tell, and Michael has one too. He does a wonderful job incorporating his Seinfeld days into the book. Most interesting was hearing about his military service: "Die cockroach, die!" I listened to Michael narrate his book on Audible. His narrating is as animated as Kramer. ❤️

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

It's too bad "Compassion" is not a class taught in pre-k, again in kindergarten and then again in every grade in elementary school. Hopefully by high school it is ingrained and no longer needs to be taught.

Historia
The New York Times best-selling biography of an American comedy legend. After three years of sobriety, Chris Farley's life was at its creative peak until a string of professional disappointments chased him back to drugs and alcohol. He fought hard against them, but it was a fight he would lose in December 1997. Farley's fans immediately drew parallels between his death and that of his idol, John Belushi. Without looking deeper, however, many failed to see that Farley was much more than just another Hollywood drug overdose. In this officially authorized oral history, Farley's friends and family remember his work and life.

Doomed
Revisado: 12-12-23
This was an interesting compilation of stories about Chris from his family, friends, and co-actors. If I were playing armchair psychiatrist, I would guess Chris' issues stem from not only trying to please his Dad, but be the image of father. The shenanigans were to get his attention. Once he was rich and famous it got him all the drugs, booze, and food he needed to satisfy his addictions. I have to ask, he was so religious, why didn't his God save him?

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Kelly's voice sounds angry on Audible
Revisado: 10-08-22
I got the book because I wanted to hear what Kelly had to say about Regis. The bottom line is their stories conflict, so one is lying and one is not. I'm curious why Kelly waited til Regis was gone to present her side.
