For some reason I can’t review book 1 despite just binging the series.

The best part of this final book is the ending, specifically the epilogues that showcase how each characters life progressed after the story; EVERY character EXCEPT Jerod!!! What the hell!! Azeling & Dakur, both murderers get happy endings, and about an hour epilogue, while Jerod got nothing. Dakur especially, an evil slave trader, responsible for the deaths of thousands over 400 years, gets an extremely happy ending, this was bullshit. The dude should have died, he didn’t deserve happiness.

The series as a whole is clearly meant for Young Adult or even younger audiences, as not a single MC dies, and only a couple side characters throughout the entire series.

There was no tension throughout the series, the “main villain” isn’t even revealed to the MCs until halfway through the final book. Up until then it’s just humans being human.

For a series with 150+ hours, I was expecting a more engaging story, not just a slice of life with a sprinkle of fantasy.

This is a great series, I don’t review series often, but when the series as a whole is exceptional I feel compelled to do so. It’s not for everyone, the humor is definitely YA humor, but it still makes me laugh.

In regards to the next book, if J is still alive, and it really sounds like she might be, I’m going to love it. Fantastic setup & foreshadowing. J & B likely best friends by now.

Story is brought down by poor narration. Narrator changes pronunciation of the same word “attribute” and others. It’s incredibly annoying. In Book 2 & 3, he changes the voices of major side characters. Constance had a weak & clear voice in Book 1, in Book 2 he gives her a thick Italian accent, now in Book 3 she has another new voice.

This narrator would be better with a story that has less characters.

Author started with a great series here, the first few books are decent, but allowing yourself to become interested in the MC or story is a bad decision. We are on 16 books with no end in sight. Book length was decent starting out and now we’re lucky to get 12 hours in a single book.

Story is the most repetitive series I’ve ever listened to.

DO NOT START THIS SERIES; author has abandoned this series And is instead now doing comics. Don’t give Patrick Rothfuss Jr. (Aleron Kong) any of your credits!

Seriously, I feel like at this point every book has been the exact same formula. Is there ever going to be an ending? Or will the wall continue to grow taller each time the MC reaches the top?

Formula; MC given “impossible” objective, MC “fails” along the way but miraculously doubles/triples/quadruples/etc. their power and ultimately defeats the villain of current story before realizing the true enemy is actually way higher than who they just beat. Rinse with a tiny sprinkle of old characters reuniting, then repeat.

Narrator does an excellent job as per usual. I’d love to hear a conclusion to a story however! Rather than just the exact same book 14 times, but written with different words.

The new narrator, Neil Hellegers has completely ruined the series. Todd has a huge range of voices while Neil has 3 voices. Pair a novice narrator with a greedy author (he's started splitting realms into multiple books and releasing books as short as 9 hours) and you get a ruined series.

Well done Michael Chatfield, you are only the second author to ever join my blacklist, sitting just under Rothfuss.

In Book 1, Randidly is deeply concerned for his friends ace & Sydney. By Book 2, even though Randidly found out towards the end of B1 that they are most likely alive and in trouble, he decides that everything on earth is settled? Leaves earth to help his master to repay his “debt” and somehow confuses his moral compass in the process. We as listeners/readers are left feeling like Randidly isn’t an actual person. He’s just a flavored soda drink — the flavor is constantly changing, and not for the better.
