Historia
It may shock you to learn that we spend an average of four to seven minutes outside each day—while we spend four to seven hours using devices with screens. Needless to say, our physical, mental, emotional, and relational health has suffered. But there is a ready solution: get outside!

Love the concept
Revisado: 04-01-24
Love the concept and thoroughly enjoyed some chapters. Will always stan 1000 hours outside. However, the author discusses AI a lot with a very “doom” tone that caught me off guard and felt off brand. I think It was meant to make the reader feel like you need to be more protective of outdoor play than ever, but it really just made me anxious and made me dislike the book.

Historia
Inspired by the spirit of Henry David Thoreau—"All good things are wild and free"—mother of five Ainsley Arment founded Wild + Free. This growing online community of mothers and families want their children to receive a quality education at home by challenging their intellectual abilities and nurturing their sense of curiosity, joy, and awe—the essence of a positive childhood. The homeschool approach of past generations is gone—including the stigma of socially awkward kids, conservative clothes, and a classroom setting replicated in the home.

Beautiful and Inspiring
Revisado: 05-11-22
I am a person who was educated in the public school system K-12. I am also a person who plans to try public school for my own children. However, this book has open my eyes to the idea that every child learns differently, and that education happens in all moments of a childhood. It brings me such inspiration to how I can make their childhoods one of wonder, curiosity, and imagination. It also gave me the inspiration to look for alternative education options. I leave this book feeling like I may totally homeschool my children. I only have a one year old at this point in my life, but this book inspires me to rethink options, and makes me excited to be a mother ❤️ Thank you Ainsley!

In Hunt, Gather, Parent, Doucleff sets out with her three-year-old daughter in tow to learn and practice parenting strategies from families in three of the world’s most venerable communities: Maya families in Mexico, Inuit families above the Arctic Circle, and Hadzabe families in Tanzania. She sees that these cultures don’t have the same problems with children that Western parents do.

This book is everything a skeptical westerner needs to hear
Revisado: 01-30-22
This book is a game changer. It puts into words, via time-tested cultural norms and anecdotes, all the skepticism I have for western parenting practices, and the admiration I have for other ones. I have always found so much of western culture to be extremely bizarre and against nature, and this book really helped me see that it is exactly that. Lol!
It also validated my intuition to parent calmly, lovingly, and yet matter-of-factly. This book helps you realize you have everything you need within you to raise calm and happy kids… You just need to get out of your head, go with the flow, and use some time-tested tools.
I have even found myself applying the things I learned in Hunt, Gather,Parent towards my communication with my husband! (E.g. Do not try to make Your point when emotions are still high.) Honestly, so much of this knowledge is applicable to realms of life beyond parenting.
I really valued the actionable tools and ideas the author gives along with general theories. Again, this book is an absolute game changer.

Informative
Revisado: 12-04-20
Loved the historical context Rebecca gave for “how we got here” in obstetrical culture. I also loved the psychological and hospital-political framework she gave for how this culture of obstetrical violence survives and thrives. I appreciate Rebecca telling her story, though I was caught off guard of how memoir-like it was. I’m not sure I was entirely interested in those aspects. I appreciate her and all the work she’s done for evidence based maternal care!

Honest memoir that inspires
Revisado: 08-06-20
This is the third time I have read this book and first time on audiotape. It was lovely listening to it being narrated by the author herself. This is an honest memoir about a family who were finally fed-up enough with conventional food life, that they moved to a piece of fertile property and began a journey of "growing their own". Its funny, adorable, educational, and whole.

Enlightening, motivating, lovely
Revisado: 01-26-19
I am heartbroken that this audiobook has come to an end. For weeks now Michelle’s voice has been my morning pep talk, my peace in traffic, and my evening lullaby.
From painting her vivid childhood, to her honest remarks on motherhood and being a working woman, to her highlighting her accomplishments as First Lady... the story is both wonderful and wonderfully told.
