Historia
Ambrose wakes up on the Coordinated Endeavor with no memory of a launch. There’s more that doesn’t add up: evidence indicates strangers have been on board, the ship’s operating system is voiced by his mother, and his handsome, brooding shipmate has barricaded himself away. But nothing will stop Ambrose from making his mission succeed—not when he’s rescuing his own sister.

Top notch great story. Totally hooked from the get go and I was thrilled over where it went. Loved this surprisingly deep YA love story between two astronaut boys stuck on a deep space voyage.

Thank you so much for making this available!!! I have no idea why Audible is only giving us the full cast recording, and not the vastly superior George Guidall reading. The best narrator paired with one of the best sci-fi classics of all time. I would buy this outright if I could. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Historia
It’s 1857, and anxious debutante Beth has just one season to snag a wealthy husband, or she and her mother will be out on the street. But playing the blushing ingenue makes Beth’s skin crawl and she’d rather be anywhere but here. Gwen, on the other hand, is on her fourth season and counting, with absolutely no intention of finding a husband, possibly ever. She figures she has plenty of security as the only daughter of a rakish earl, from whom she’s gotten all her flair, fun, and less-than-proper party games.

Jane Austen but with lesbians! Yay!
Revisado: 04-25-24
It was marvelous! The narrators are perfect, especially the incomparable Mary Jane Wells. She’s narrated many a straight romance for me so I was extra excited to find her here reading this lovely little morsel of a gay book. Great characters, lots of pining, lots of secret kissing and breathlessness. What are you waiting for?

In Kingdom of Olives and Ash, Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, two of today's most renowned novelists and essayists, have teamed up with the Israeli NGO Breaking the Silence and a host of illustrious writers to tell the stories of the people on the ground in the contested territories.

Profound!
Revisado: 04-09-24
With so much happening in the news lately surrounding Israel, I realized I knew basically nothing about Palestine, and so I picked this up. I am glad I did!! It is really well written and gives a heartbreaking portrayal of what life is like living under occupation. Though at first blush, this seems wholly anti-Israeli, there are Jewish voices here too, and the ultimate point of the book is that both sides are victims, and working towards peace would be good for the souls of both these two peoples. There is a note of optimism that shines through all the stories of loss, brutality, and hatred, that makes listening to current news all that more poignant. I really hope both peoples can find a way forward after this.

Feels vaguely mysogynistic
Revisado: 03-02-24
This started intriguingly, then devolved into a total slog. I finished it, but by boy did it feel like a chore, and I was getting increasingly angry with this book as I went along. All the women feel badly written, though I can't quite put my finger on why. I can't shake the feeling that the author himself doesn't speak to many women in his daily life. Perhaps it's cultural, or something lost in translation. All I can say is that after making it through all the way to the end, I wished I had quit much sooner.

Absolutely incredible book and an absolutely incredible narrator. Been a fan of the 1985 movie for decades but never got around to actually reading it. Now that I have, this may be my all time favorite of all the books I’ve ever read. Epic, tragic, beautiful, joyful, deep, hilarious, all in equal measure. Samira Wiley does a perfect job here. You are seriously missing out if you don’t snap this one up.

Historia
We live in a world obsessed with drinking. We drink at baby showers and work events, brunch and book club, graduations and funerals. Yet no one ever questions alcohol’s ubiquity—in fact, the only thing ever questioned is why someone doesn’t drink. It is a qualifier for belonging and if you don’t imbibe, you are considered an anomaly. As a society, we are obsessed with health and wellness, yet we uphold alcohol as some kind of magic elixir, though it is anything but.

Absolutely essential
Revisado: 01-06-24
Essential reading for women who are sober curious. Hear all the same struggles you’re going through, hear answers to a lot of questions you must have, hear finally that you’re not alone in what you’re going through. There’s a way through and this book can absolutely help you get there. I’ve read many on this topic. Alan Carr’s Easy Way, Cold Turkey, This Naked Mind, but this was maybe the best one and definitely my favorite.

Audrey Cameron has lost her spark. But after getting dumped by her first love and waitlisted at her dream art school all in one week, she has no intention of putting her heart on the line again to get it back. So when local curmudgeon Mr. Montgomery walks into her family’s Pittsburgh convenience store saying he can help her, Audrey doesn’t know what she’s expecting…but it’s definitely not that she’ll be transported back to 1812 to become a Regency romance heroine.

It’s everything I wanted it to be!
Revisado: 12-09-23
Such a great read! If you’ve ever sighed over any of the heroines in a Jane Austen novel, this is the book for you. It’s a bit on the YA side, but still so much fun getting swept away with all the pining, stolen glances, stabs of jealousy, tortured angst over a forbidden passion, and the absolute exhilaration of seeing someone slowly free themselves from the misogynistic restraint women had to suffer in an earlier time. I ended the book grinning from ear to ear and so will you. Narrators are top notch too!

Historia
Stark narrates a series of outdoor adventure stories in which thrill can cross the line into mortal peril. Each death or brush with death is at once a suspense story, a cautionary tale, and a medical thriller. He describes what goes through the mind of a cross-country skier as his body temperature plummets - apathy at 91 degrees, stupor at 90 - and explores the physiology of a snowboarder trying not to panic as he consumes the tiny pocket of air trapped around his face under thousands of pounds of snow.

An old favorite!
Revisado: 10-25-23
I read this one a long time ago and nearly squealed when I saw it was available on audible. Absolutely worth spending a credit on. Each chapter is fascinating both from a science perspective, (what DOES happen to a human body when it drowns?) and from a literary perspective (is that poor Eastern European cyclist going to live?). The entire book is fabulous. Super easy to listen to, and so disappointing when you realize you don’t have any more chapters to read. I could easily do 40 more hours of this.
