I love this whole series

This is dark. There are multiple dark themes even if they're off page.
The narrators are perfect. I love how they're able to give the characters different voices. War and Nash occasionally sounded the same. But overall they're amazing!
Not a standalone and you need to start at book 1: start a war.
This is the conclusion of the three books and I didn't see some of the twists. I love Elles writing.
And the epilogue where we see Saint View Prison characters was fun and I loved seeing how they were.

The way this story had a choke hold on me!

I read this book about 6 months ago from the date of this review, I absolutely loved reading it and was looking for something to listen to while drivinig. This book came up in my library and I remembered that I really liked it so I thought I would give the audiobook a chance. The voices brought this to life so much better than the ones in my head and in my imagination. I don't think any other narrators could have performed better than the two that were chosen. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I was still on the edge of my seat, I was still enthralled, I still listened for way longer into the night than I should have. And I am absolutely jumping into book two on audiobook because I love these narrators. Definitely recommend this book!

these voices were perfection for this story & these characters

I went to this series after listening to the Saint View psychos. I loved that trilogy and felt like I wanted a little bit of background on certain characters.
It's not necessarily needed to read this before psychos (they're both standalone trilogies but have characters pop in. I never felt lost reading psychos first) but I think I would have very different feelings about characters if I had completed this story first. Granted there's still books 2 & 3 so we will see what happens.
I love the characters in this and have been rooting for things to happen (I don't think I'd feel this level of involvement if I only read this. The voices make the story.) It's definitely a slow burn and typically not my favorite; but the tension and chemistry were off the page hot so I was ok waiting because there was so much else going on. This was well done and not chaotic (writing style, story was definitely chaos lol) with subplots happening around main plot point.

I can't wait to jump in to book 2

The narrators did an amazing job bringing these 2 to life.

I loved this one. I love seeing the relationship between the main couple but also the relationship between the side characters. King, Preppy, Bear and their women are scattered throughout the story too.

Preppy will always be my favorite but nine is a real close second.

This book got me. I love how TM can do twists and turns. I thought I had everything figured out but I was wrong.
Definitely worth the time to read and I'll always recommend starting at King.

Original review after reading the book.
The conclusion of Bears story was bittersweet. I loved the ride that was his journey with Ti. Definitely a must read.

7-28-24 Audible review:
I loved this just as much this time as when I first read it. The narrators bring it to life in a way my brain didn't when I read it.
I still feel that it's bittersweet but now I understand some of the things that previously were just tear inducing. Still tear inducing but I had a different sense of peace, that hearing the story provided.

I will always recommend the King series. This can not be read by itself. If you don't want to start with King, followed by Tyrant; you need to read Lawless as this story is a duet.

I read the book a few years ago but wanted to listen to it this time

Bears experiences made me sad at the end of Tyrant and I couldn't wait to get to know him.

I loved seeing Bear vulnerable. I liked that he was able to get peace regarding his feelings for Doe/Rae. It's been awhile since I read it, and a few things were surprises because I had forgotten some details. I want very bad things to happen to chop and I want Bear to finally grieve for his friend.

*chef's kiss* the voices were perfect. I recognized the names from Kings books, but they're (the narrators) good and gave Bear and Thia a different sound.

Im excited for Soulless with audible.

I forgot a few details from when I read this before. I love how it all came together. I like the narrators, I felt like they brought the characters to life. They weren't just reading a script. I will always recommend TM Frazier.

These narrators bring it to life

I love this book. I previously read it, but recently found it on audible. These narrators were perfect for the characters. I can typically "see" the story when I read. I'm still getting used to audiobooks but love the freedom of them (listen while I clean, drive, cook). Sometimes the picture in my head isn't as detailed but it's a good trade to hear emotions and voices.

I'm no stranger to sandy and crystals Kings. I have followed this series from book 1 of the Montana chapter. In the book Defy, I think, it's mentioned that Riggs' Cajun accent is not overly pronounced but the voice actor definitely had that accent with his speaking roles. I will mention that I was impressed by the different tones and ability to change his voice for different characters. But when the female voice actor did the voice of Riggs while in Luna's POV it came across sounding Russian a few times.
Otherwise I really enjoyed this. I'm new to audiobooks so I don't have a huge comparison but I enjoyed this.
