The top 10 list is populated. The sponsorship program is open. The difficulty is ramping up. The first three floors were nothing compared to what Carl and Donut now face. The Iron Tangle. An impossibly complicated subway system built out of the world's subterranean railway systems, all combined and then tied together into a knot. Up is down.

Entertaining but Confusing AF
Revisado: 04-09-25
I don’t know if it’ll be better in book form but it was difficult to keep track of this story setting. Rather confusing. I’m a huge fan of this series so I still enjoyed it though.

Graphic description of SA/Rape
Revisado: 08-05-24
Not like his other work but I love his writing so I stuck with it. I got to a graphic SA/rape scene involving pre-teen children and had to stop. Not only was it graphic, the narrator even went as far as to moan/grunt/etc as the rapist as well as speak like children for the boys involved which was disturbing. Had to pass. I know this stuff exists - this isn’t a “head in the sand” reaction. I read/listen to books for enjoyment and this was not enjoyable at all.

Historia
In Garner County, girls are told they have the power to lure grown men from their beds, to drive women mad with jealousy. That’s why they’re banished for their 16th year, to release their magic into the wild so they can return purified and ready for marriage. But not all of them will make it home alive. Sixteen-year-old Tierney James dreams of a better life - a society that doesn’t pit friend against friend or woman against woman, but as her own grace year draws near, she quickly realizes that it’s not just the brutal elements they must fear.

Wandering and pointless
Revisado: 05-28-24
The narrator is awful - the valley girl accent of the antagonist was too much for me. I got halfway through and couldn’t stand the exhausted stereotypes along with that accent anymore. It’s aggressively trying to be an anthem for feminism or something about women banding together but it tries too hard. Had high hopes from the beginning. Thoroughly disappointed.

Historia
Thirty years after the shocking and unsolved 1986 assassination of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme on a snowy street in Stockholm, an activist priest is found gruesomely sacrificed on the altar of a Swedish-American church in Minneapolis. The church’s immigrant janitor is also slain, execution style. The crime shocks Hennepin Island, the church’s time-forgotten riverfront neighborhood, where Span Lokken, a demoralized newspaperman, and his improbable partner, Maggie Lindberg, the murdered clergyman’s stylish young assistant, join forces to search for the killers.

Probably a better read than listen
Revisado: 10-21-23
The narrator’s vocal fry and intonation was distracting and off putting. Felt like I was listening to a very dry news story. Made it difficult to connect emotionally with the characters or to feel drawn into the story. Otherwise, the plot was okay, not what I expected. I liked certain elements.

Great cast. I love dramatizations and this one was put together nicely. Entertaining, good plot and decent acting. Quick and easy to follow. I listened to it while driving long distance. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed this. A lot of cool details about Agatha Christie and some true crime from the UK. Well researched and formatted in an easy to follow manner. Highly recommend if you like true crime, detective authors, and anything Christie.

Well written but too fantastic
Revisado: 08-02-23
The story and characters are well done but the overall plot is absurd. I rolled my eyes so much listening to this. Very cliche and over-the-top. Annoyed me more than anything. Regret wasting the time on it.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Very uninspired and lackluster
Revisado: 06-01-23
This story leaves much to be desired. Predictable and rather boring. The romance felt very two dimensional and forced. Highly regret wasting the time on this. Assumed it would be more entertaining since they made a movie of it. Disappointed overall.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Great listen
Revisado: 02-20-23
McConaughey has an incredible voice for storytelling but hearing him tell his own story was next level. It gives intimate insight into his thinking and the more vulnerable parts of his life from adolescence to the man we know him to be today. I found myself laughing at times but mostly I took away the heartfelt sincerity of his words. He shares a lot of genuine advice as though from an old friend, versus a celebrity I have never known the acquaintance of. His successes, failures, fuckups, joys, and heartbreaks are all in here. Hearing these words from anyone else would have felt shallow and deceptive. I highly recommend as it is a great listen, great story, and endearing novel. Thank you, Matthew, for sharing this with us.
