The Anthropocene is the current geologic age, in which humans have profoundly reshaped the planet and its biodiversity. In this remarkable symphony of essays adapted and expanded from his groundbreaking podcast, best-selling author John Green reviews different facets of the human-centered planet on a five-star scale - from the QWERTY keyboard and sunsets to Canada geese and Penguins of Madagascar.

Absolutely delightful read/listen
Revisado: 08-09-21
First off, what a great premise, to review aspects of human experience/invention in the era of humans on our planet. I love it. John Green’s reflections were both delightful and laugh out loud, while also thoughtful and reflective in a way that warmed my soul. I’ve already recommended this to friends and this title will probably be on my rotation of re-read. This book was excellent.

Historia
Comedian, writer, actress, and social media star Amanda Seales is a force of nature who has fearlessly and passionately charted her own course through life and career. Now, in her one-of-a-kind voice that blends academic intellectualism, Black American colloquialisms, and pop culture fanaticism, she’s bringing her life’s lessons and laughs in this audiobook.

Excellent.
Revisado: 06-16-21
Amanda Seales book of insight and stories was inspiring, honest, witty, just everything. I loved her discussion of multi-hyphenate talent. I loved her visceral description of her decision to no longer put energy into crossing over, but instead committing to being her full smart, black, and funny talented amazingness and breaking through. Thank you, Amanda. I’m always looking forward to the thoughts and art you bring to the table.

Historia
On a chilly spring morning in Brooklyn, 19-year-old Linda Sarsour stared at her reflection, dressed in a hijab for the first time. She saw in the mirror the woman she was growing to be - a young Muslim American woman unapologetic in her faith and her activism, who would discover her innate sense of justice in the aftermath of 9/11. Now heralded for her award-winning leadership of the Women’s March on Washington, Sarsour offers a “moving memoir [that] is a testament to the power of love in action” (Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow).

This is an incredible story of an American activist. Should be required reading. Love and solidarity.

Historia
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.
