The best biography I have ever read

This is an amazing book. Robert Lowell was a person who faltered, a lot. But also openly and honestly reflected on it with much sincerity and brutal truth. He lets us learn lessons through his life and therefore his work. His work was his life. Even if you aren’t interested in poetry I recommend this. Especially if you suffer from bipolar as I do. I felt like I was listening to the life of an old friend. I was brought to tears many times. Having mental illness, being able to relate to someone else who suffered with such close relation thanks to his openness is comforting. I was sad this ended.

Like all of Jack London’s work, this is straight forward story telling of his adventures in America atop rail cars and other unusual transportation. Interesting for a glimpse of life in his time. Don’t expect a lot of introspection. This isn’t a moral lesson. It’s entertainment.

I don't remember how I stumbled upon Bierce but once I did I devoured ALL of his work. AFTER reading it all in an actual book I purchased this to listen to....

The stories are of course great HOWEVER....I personally enjoyed reading them better.

The first story I ever read of his was not a well known one but one of the scariest and my favorite, The Moonlit Road.

An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge is so well written. It is the type of story I feel most short story lovers long for... It brings you into a story that is so well described but so deceptive and at the end proves all is not as it seems. It makes you FEEL it. Can't ask for more. If you like scary, creepy, war stories, ghosts, apparitions, nature and all that lurks in it.... this is for you.

and I grew up with the Allman Bros music. This is the best autobiography I've ever "read." I am glad I listened to it because Will Patton can narrate a southern man LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS! He was GREAT.

The book itself has so much wisdom inside it. Gregg was an amazing man who had self accountability and awareness. He is very open and honest in this. I laughed some and I had some very reflective moments.

But it does have a good life lesson. Which is, life is short. Life has ups and downs. Life gives and takes. Love is all the same as well.

Flannery O’Connor is a favorite. This is her at her most quick witted and dark twisted moral study of humanity and the basic ironies of the self righteous soul which we all somewhat possess. She never fails to give the rider a nice poke at the end with the “lessons”...the characters aren’t the only receivers! I hate that she lost her life so early, she was SUPER talented and superior in many ways above just the normal standards. Her ability to wrap and weave the tones and subject delivery vessels is mind blowing. You must look past the outer most layer of the words. O’Connor has to be read in depth. I found the audio of this somewhat easier to follow along than when I read her myself yet did feel bc of the more blasé style I missed some deeper matter.

I must comment on the narrator, EXCELLENT. I grew up in the same place as O’Connor and he NAILED every single character as well as their lingo dialect and delivery. I l felt like I was listening to many life acquaintances and a few actually kept pooping in to mind. He kept their specific voices throughout the entire reading and at parts had me literally crying with laughter. Oh man. Or maybe I should say, Oh Jesus! Oh Jesuuuus!

I have been a LIFE LONG fan of verse and poetic form. Since childhood (I’m 33) I have naturally just fell into line with the style and written throughout my life for pure pleasure. I own almost every classic collection you can think of in every form imaginable. I never owned Dickinson however picked her up a week ago in a used book store. I started reading and was surprised to like, ehhh, a few. I wrongly assumed her to be a nature loving loafer and I am not one tended towards nature poems. Then I accidentally purchased my whole cart earlier tonight and this was in my library. So I gave her another shot. WHAT A MOMENT OF SELF AWARENESS IN MY OWN NAIVE ASSUMPTIONS!!!!! She is simply layered, refreshingly dark, intriguinging, soul piercing and everything a modern Instagram poet only wishes to capture into the page. As far as myself, she has fired up my creative engine and I am ready to climb out of bed (its 5am) and write! Who needs sleep right? Apparently she spent much time to herself and was quite fond of her melancholy. Oh, another surprise as I too am exactly the same. Maybe next time I shall take a walk in nature with her. I will probably listen to this more than once (or thrice for that matter). The narrators are great and the variety adds a nice fluidity and change of “scenery” for the mind as they do not start running together and allowing the listener to get lost in thought. I appreciate that in this collection. If you are new to poetry or young, listen with the full knowledge that Dickinson is a breed of her own. Her grammatical merits are purposefully placed for a reason. She is a very deep and pondering soul and very self aware. I can see why she flew over my radar for a while. I had to understand the pains of life before I could appreciate thoroughly this wonderful poet. Stark and blunt this is already easily a favorite which I will buy in book form.

Excellent narrations of many famous poems and many which aren’t typically anthologized. Highly recommend!!! No matter your level of poetic prowess.

Complex. Hidden undertones lie throughout the entire text. Beautiful imagery. Truly haunting though one never quite grasps why we feel this way. However, possibly we do and that is why we try not to... whenever an author can reveal the meaning in a way that it is felt rather than directly told makes a story one that stays with you long after the initial reading. I️ imagine this as Tolstoy at a carnival writing his superb thoughts on life and the characters we make of ourselves backwards ;) and high on evil glee. Modern approach to what we always ponder, WHO AND WHAT (and why) are “we” and “I️” and how does one matter or affect the other. What is the point of life? A macabre and new approach which is a classic yet so refreshing. If it’s too complex to follow on audible (which it is) try reading it first. The story is quite fast paced and always moving along new and diff ways though in the narration of one character. Don’t give up on it. His only story I️ actually like and it’s one of my all time favorites of any I’ve ever read.

If you are like me and own the hard copies and read them with your own enthusiasm and personal preference to adding life into the stories skip the narration. My daughter LOVES Llama Llama, she asked me to turn this off after half a story. I feel bad saying this about such great stories but the narration is one of the absolute worst I've ever heard on any audiobook ever.
