Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

I listened to the sample and got interested. Then, I started listening to the first few chapters. Then, I was so invested that it was like I was watching a movie in my mind. Then, I was nearly crying at the end of this masterpiece! The story was great and the voice acting was great! It was like a mix of The Martian, 2001: A Space Odyseey, and Interstellar. I don't know about its re-readability/listenability, but it was a great story while it lasted. Good good good.

Historia
It has been proclaimed many times, but perhaps never more convincingly than now, when every news cycle seems to deliver further confirmation of a world gone mad. Is this the endgame? Author Spencer Klavan is a classicist, with a Ph.D. from Oxford, and a deep understanding of the West. His analysis: The situation is dire. But every crisis we face today, we have faced before. And we can surmount each one. Klavan brings to the West’s defense the insights of Plato, Aristotle, the Bible, and the Founding Fathers to show that in the wisdom of the past lies hope for the future.

A great book if you're feeling in a rut in Western society. Spencer does a great job of leading readers to the roots of Western culture past and present. In doing so, he addresses how that ancient wisdom can help us rightly confront our modern problems. He does a great job reading his book as well.
I was still missing that Gandalf quote near the end, though (it is the little things that keep the darkness at bay) :)

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

A True Classic of the Modern Era
Revisado: 02-18-23
I never read this book growing up. Wow, I understand now why it is considered such great literature!
It is not a happy story nor a hopeful story. But it is a story that will make you stop a second and be more mindful of the past, present, and future.
The voice actor was brilliant! Every accent was consistent and felt real. Great job!

Capital Literature!
Revisado: 02-11-23
Wow! I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. Granted, it's not an action-packed book. But, I listened for an hour or two each day at work and got through the book in about a month. It was a nice ride.
The voice actor was nice, but she was often too feminine and calm. Some forms of expression (excitement, anger, and the like) are lost when everything is told in a calm, soothing voice that doesn't pause very much. But, she did a great job! With Anna being the name of the book, she did a great job representing Anna and the other women.
Leo Tolstoy does an amazing job of seamlessly showcasing the human condition: marriage, divorce, adultery, life, death, religion, subtleties of social interaction. I was happy when the book ended, and I felt like I had just experienced something "capital" :)

A Good Avatar Story
Revisado: 01-18-23
It was really fascinating to listen to this story about the Rise of Kyoshi where you can begin to see her emerge as the avatar she is portrayed as in the original TV show.
Nancy Wu did a nice job reading, but her male voices are all really airy. Nevertheless, I could follow along just fine :)

Historia
The 10 enlightening (and often humorous) lectures of Medieval Myths and Mysteries will show you how far from the “dark” times of legend these centuries were. Uncover the facts about the Knights Templar. Reveal the truth behind the tales of legendary creatures like the Questing Beast and the unicorn. Trace the events of the Black Death and the ways it altered the world in its wake, and much more. With Professor Armstrong, you will dig deep into the ways that later generations reshaped the narrative of the medieval years and perpetuated the myths.

Excellent All Around
Revisado: 01-11-23
The narrator did a great job!
The story was also interesting for me. The author does a good job of peering into the life of the Jedi in a way that blends nicely with the movies. Granted, you'll be wondering why Obi-wan questions Qui-gon about disobeying the counsel in Episode 1 after listening to this story.
I think this story is good for anyone who wants more of Qui-gon and Obi-wan in a setting that makes you like both characters even more without hiding their weaknesses nor idolizing their strengths.

Good Foundation for Understanding History
Revisado: 01-11-23
It was interesting learning about different historians and how their perspective determined what they wrote about.
Dr. (?) Guelzo did an excellent job in presentation style. But, as the series went on, things got a little more muddled (or at least more difficult to follow along while paying casual attention) with names popping in and out. Also, I never felt satisfied if we answered the Three Questions asked in the very beginning.
I feel like I will recall this series many times throughout my life as a reminder to not be overally dogmatic nor post-modern in my study of history.
