I was on the fence about this. It seemed like it could be interesting but could go either way. So it is laugh out loud funny at times, it is deep and insightful at others. The setting is wedding planning but that’s not really what the story is. It is about friendship and love. I really liked this. Worth a listen.

I reviewed the previous version of this book and I was not impressed. It was abridged into oblivion. No character or plot development. This does not have that issue!
I read this series as a kid. They were released when I was in high school I believe. This is what I remember. I can’t wait to continue the series. The only criticism I have is that the narrator makes Jensen sound like Neil Goldman from the family guy. Not a huge deal but a little annoying lol.

Pretty much every sentence starts with his weird name. It’s getting to the point where it feels like a character that is supposed to be really stupid who refers to himself in the third person constantly. I get it. I won’t forget his name. Can we stop saying it every 2 seconds? It’s getting annoying and I’m only 5 chapters in.
(Yup, after listening more, it is clear that the author doesn’t like personal pronouns… sometimes. He will occasionally say “he, his” etc but most of the time where anyone else would say “he did X, y and z” This works says “Randidly did X, Randidly did Y, Randidly did Z. Randidly then wondered why Randidly wasn’t getting the effects that Randidly was looking for”
This was not a direct quote from the book, but it almost could have been. Y’all I’m really trying to finish this book but it’s so hard…

So much better than the first!

Ok I will admit, I liked the first book but I didn’t love it. I couldn’t understand why everyone was going nuts over it. It seemed like just another decent YA fantasy novel. I didn’t realize that book one was just setting the stage.
This book is definitely a very good example of an “act 2” where things amp up and get really good then leave you thirsting for more, for act 3.
Can’t wait for act 3! Go ahead and get this book, you won’t regret the credit if you like the genre.

Couldn’t put it down

It is a really interesting and captivating trilogy. Some of it didn’t age well, for instance I’m not sure if we knew back in 2002 and 2003 that not only was it possible for Neanderthal and homo sapien to cross breed but that modern humans of European descent typically have between 1 and 4 percent Neanderthal DNA. So it absolutely did happen naturally. It wasn’t too difficult to suspend disbelief though for a great story. It was a little jarring to hear Bill Cosby praised as a good man who would definitely never assault someone though. You have to wonder about that. Even back in 2002 we all knew something shady was up with him. I kind of gave my echo some serious side eye during that passage.
All in all though, it was very entertaining and worth the credit.

I’ve read and re-read every book in this series, this one is my favorite. I think it’s that we get to see the protagonist in a different setting and see how she copes with a more modern life.
For those who haven’t read it, it’s not modern compared to you or me, but… think steampunk.

I had heard mixed reviews about the dramatization so I was hesitant. I decided to start with the second book since it is my favorite book of the series. I was not disappointed! I’m so glad I decided to see for myself how it was. I think the casting was spot on, exactly how I imagined their voices to be. Great voice acting.
If you are on the fence because of the mixed reviews, I’ll just say I enjoyed it. Give it a try. I’m going to buy the whole series in this version. Slowly… They are way more expensive lol. Have to pay that fabulous cast right? (I hope they got a great pay check, they did a great job)

Oy this narrator…

Ok I know a lot of people who are interested in this book are looking for “unappreciated gifts”
It’s unlabeled. It’s chapter 14. You’re welcome.
The narrator has a lovely voice but he also has no inflection and he mis-pronounces the name “Asil” to all fans of the Mercy Thompson universe, this is annoying. It was kind of difficult to listen to. I really didn’t care about any of the other stories and am kind of annoyed that this is not in the shifting shadows anthology. I MIGHT listen to the rest, but probably not. I haven’t even finished the one story that I actually want but I had to stop and review because it’s quite jarring.
