Life’s lessons may come unassumingly. Sometimes you just need someone to “show” the way. The Author shows this excellently through Joe “ The Man on the Mountaintop”.

Historia
In Accidental Saints, New York Times best-selling author Nadia Bolz-Weber invites readers into a surprising encounter with what she calls "a religious but not-so-spiritual life." Tattooed, angry and profane, this former standup comic turned pastor stubbornly, sometimes hilariously, resists the God she feels called to serve. But God keeps showing up in the least likely of people - a church-loving agnostic, a drag queen, a felonious Bishop and a gun-toting member of the NRA.

Irreverent Humor/ Ordinary Grace
Revisado: 09-10-15
What did you love best about Accidental Saints?
I'm good with a little irreverence. I like authentic confessional story telling. I love people who live Monday to Monday looking for wonder and are excited when they find it.
Which scene was your favorite?
I've listened several times to the episode on speaking to the youth. I like the struggle to find what to say, the doubts about the audience, and the openness to find wisdom in an accidental encounter on a plane.
Any additional comments?
I like the underlying thread throughout Nadia's two books, the struggle with ego when we are strong and our desire to hide when we are weak.
I also like her refusal to find God in only one kind of person. We're all bad and we're all good and God draws no lines across which he will not step.
Well done!

Watch for different pronunciation
Revisado: 09-10-15
Where does The Girl in the Spider's Web rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
A good follow up to the original trilogy. The introduction and description of Camilla was excellent.
What aspect of Simon Vance’s performance would you have changed?
Erica Berger has now become Erica Barrier. Not sure why this change in pronunciation but it threw me initially and I never got used to it.
Any additional comments?
Good for one listen but I probably won't listen to it again.

Revisado: 03-17-12
If you've considered listening to Annie Dillard, I consider this a classic. I've owned this book in print form for a dozen or so years and have thought a lot about the content and how the content comes to all of us (the life of a writer). Be ready for great insights coming from small observances as well as fantastic stories that are commentaries on all of our lives. This is a writing to be pondered so let it sink in a little at a time.

A great title, a less than great listen
Revisado: 03-17-12
When I buy a book as a recommendation from audible I know it is at best a crap shoot. Sometimes I am impressed and sometimes not. This is a not. There is probably a good story in there somewhere but it's not in this book. I found the characters to be one dimensional and the story predictable. Every stunt that Gideon undertakes to get the the "truth" works out perfectly (successfully). But by the end it feels a little too fictionalized.
I would pass on this one.

Historia
“Jesus - the Jesus we might discover if we really looked,” explains Wright, “is larger, more disturbing, more urgent than we had ever imagined. We have successfully managed to hide behind other questions and to avoid the huge, world-shaking challenge of Jesus’s central claim and achievement. It is we, the churches, who have been the real reductionists. We have reduced the kingdom of God to private piety; the victory of the cross to comfort for the conscience; Easter itself to a happy, escapist ending after a sad, dark tale. Piety, conscience, and ultimate happiness are important...."

A must read for today's church
Revisado: 03-17-12
Mix together a fair amount of history, a little bit of culture and an ample amount of theology and you have the recipe for "Simply Jesus". Historically it helps us see Jesus' place in a line of Messiahs, some coming before him and some after him(the last one as late as 100 years after Jesus' death). Culturally, we get a picture of the expectations surrounding Jesus, the excitement of a Messiah coming onto the scene and what one would look for if a Messiah was "outing" himself. But most important, theologically, this book is a discussion of how the church has done Jesus a real disservice by confining him to our church methods, programs, or making him our own "personal" saviour. I've listened to this book twice and probably will again.
