Historia
In a wealthy Minneapolis neighborhood, two elderly women are bludgeoned to death. They are apparent victims of a random robbery, though nothing of value appears to have been stolen. But when Lucas Davenport looks deeper, he fears that the victims weren’t so random, and the items stolen were far from invaluable. As a pattern emerges it leads Lucas to...certainly not where he expected. Which is too bad, because the killers are expecting him. And that’s only the first surprise.

Superb Writing and Performance!
Revisado: 05-05-25
This is probably for fourth or fifth time reading/listening to the entire Prey series. This particular book is my Mother’s, Auntie’s, and I’s favorite. The criminals Big and Little are so ruthless, and psychopathic….yet still very believable. That’s the thing with John Sandford’s Prey series, and all its various spinoffs. Davenport/Flowers/ Lettie D novels. His “bad” guys and gals are so fully formed and absolutely believable. That alone should terrify everyone because those like his characters live amongst us.

It was heartbreaking and yet inspiring.

It was a fictional story based on actual events. It was heartfelt, and heartbreaking. I really got lost in this one.

Historia
Munich, 1938. Evelyn Brand is an American foreign correspondent as determined to prove her worth in a male-dominated profession as she is to expose the growing tyranny in Nazi Germany. To do so, she must walk a thin line. If she offends the government, she could be expelled from the country - or worse. If she fails to truthfully report on major stories, she'll never be able to give a voice to the oppressed - and wake up the folks back home.

Not one word in the description indicated it was a religious/faith based WW2 story.
Revisado: 04-01-22
I would never have wasted my last credit on a WW2 historical drama had I known it was a faith driven book. There should have been a disclaimer or key words within the description. I completely understand there’s a vast audience for books like this but it’s not my cup of tea. Instead I feel tricked and want my credit back.

Agatha Award-winning author Rhys Bowen’s charming combination of intrigue and romance blended with a touch of humor shines when performed by Audible Hall of Fame narrator Katherine Kellgren, whose deft range and impeccable accent work make it hard to believe this isn’t a multicast performance.

So much FUN!!!
Revisado: 12-15-21
I have been on a reader’s jaunt delving into historical fiction set during WW2 which is far from my usual thriller and suspense. While it was a such an interesting topic to explore and I recommend everyone to do so, my heart hurt after reading about so many evil things that happened in real life. So I decided to come up for air and this one was in my Audible suggestions.
Her Royal Spyness was an exceptionally fun romp! I was skeptical at first as it’s not my usual fare, but now I’m anxiously looking forward to the next in the series. The writing was spot on, the mystery clever, the characters enormously engaging, and the narrator? Wow! Bravo!!!

Historia
January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb.... As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends - and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is.

Instant Classic!!!!
Revisado: 08-03-18
This will become one of my “comfort” books. To be enjoyed and savored every year on a cold and dark winter’s day. Only Pride and Prejudice and Emma held that honor prior. It’s one of those stories that leaves you caught up the characters, and thinking about them, long after you read the last page.
