As good in audio format as it was when I read it

Well defined and believable characters, believable action, and enjoyable character interactions. I don’t feel right spoiling anything for anyone, but the pivotal point which alters the main character is so well-written and emotionally jarring that you feel the horror, sorrow and rage that the protagonist is thrust into. Great book- cannot recommend enough.

I’d sooner listen to nails on a chalkboard

Honestly, I could let get more than five chapters into this story, and as such am unable to rate the actual story itself. Why? Because the narrator is apparently an emotional black hole which sucks in all humanity and has *zero* intention of letting any back out. The man, as far as I can tell, is reading the text for the first time as he drones on. Clearly hearing him turning pages in the background is just the cherry on top. On the other hand, I have found an effective means to go immediately to sleep. Hint: very dangerous to listen to him whilst driving.

Surprisingly good story

The character is relatable and interesting (even though the concept of command officers using first names makes me cringe). I really enjoyed it. My only hang up is the entirely serious voice of the narrator, b hut really… meh. I got used to it and stopped noticing pretty early on. High recommend, and I look forward to listening to the remainder of the series.

“Wow” is insufficient to the task here…

So this was the most whacked out story I’ve heard in quite a while (and I have teenage children- the competition is fierce), and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Thank you, Mr. Correia, and Mr. Baldwin is the perfect voice for the story. Still… “wow”.

Honestly, it’s not that common that I find a random sci-fi book or author I’ve never heard of before that good. This, however… the characters are well-developed, the interaction between them is entertaining and believable, and the action is well-considered and communicated. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the next book. Thank you, Mr. Robertson.
