This story spans 4 decades of the friendship/relationship between 2 young girls learning who they are, having faith, what friendship looks like and trusting God. Decisions are made resulting in tragedy, life-changing directions, jealousy and judgement. Throughout the story, you love some of the characters and dislike some of the decisions and question where the story is going but in the end it's a great story of redemption, remorse and rebuilding. The reader becomes encompassed in the lives of Dana and Lisa and in the end you have a complete understanding of The Light on Halsey Street.

The Queen of Sugar Hill is a great read. The story depicts the life of Hattie McDaniel, the 1st Black actress to win on Oscar for a supporting role in Gone With The Wind. Ms. McDaniel won the Oscar for her portrayal of a maid. McDaniel role wasn't well received by her race and her win wasn't acknowledged and rewarded like those of the white race. The Queen Of Sugar Hill gives you a clear picture of the struggles black actors and actresses experienced, the conflict among the black actors and actresses for roles, the preference of white Hollywood, the disparities of pay, work conditions and roles. Beyond the silver screen, the story told is about McDaniel and her life after the Oscar win until her death. As acclaimed as she is for her Oscar win and as little that is known about her generosity and fight for equal rights, her life was full of struggles, failed marriages and bad discussions.

There are so many good things about this great story. The characters, Canon, Neevah and Dessi are vivid, charismatic & powerful. Dessi's character is beautifully written and is a great example of how we must not stop to end racism. To be as talented as Dessi was yet not be able to capitalize on it because of your ethnicity. We must continue to push the mantle forward. Neevah's story is one that all readers can relate to at some point in life. Holding on to the hurts of the past, avoiding relationships based on anger and choosing to turn away from the problem instead of dealing with it, builds anger and resentment that effects how one approaches those life-changing decisions. And Canon he will forever be my book bae. He appears so complicated in the beginning of the story and you almost dislike him but has the story proceeds, the reader can't help but fall in love with Canon and who he is.

Kennedy Ryan has done it again.

Full of twist and turns, suspense, betrayal, adult situations, love. This story keeps you guessing until the very end. Characters are well developed. The reader will want to love one character and hate the other initially then at some point in the story, the reader will hate the one they love and cheer for the one they hate. Continued guessing throughout the whole story. I enjoyed the twist and turns.

If you like a good crime sorry, check out Ashe Cayne's series by Ian K. Smith. Wolf Point is book 2.
Wolf Point has it all. Mystery, deception, crime, complex characters and back stories for days. I love how it all connects, comes together in the end. Ashe Cayne has become one of my favorite characters. I love his determination, drive and strength but also his vulnerability.

Fallen Grace is a quick read but a good read. Everyone at some point in life, falls from grace, disappoints someone, let's someone down. Sometimes we make decisions based on the opinions or judgements of others and instead of getting up from falling, allow those thoughts to hold you down and push you toward making other decisions based on the situation. A single mother, Bubbles Jones, in segregated Virginia pushes back on societal prejudice and her own family’s judgment in an emotionally powerful story. Bubbles experiences parental judgement, being ostracized & disillusioned, unexpected friendship and betrayal.

Mary Monroe has done it again with "Bent but Not Broken". The story set in Lexington, Alabama during the depression era gives you destructive decisions, dysfunction at it's best, deception and some one liners that make you stop, reread, think about it and laugh. Naomi Simmons does not disappoint. She makes any situation you may be going through look like a blessing. Read the book.
