I really like the story, however, the reader jumps back and forth between whispering and shouting. It makes for a frustrating listening experience.

Historia
When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbi’s son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughter’s reputation, it’s Philadelphia’s strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye. To Marilyn’s surprise, Ada’s not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermès scarf, and Cadillac convertible. She’s sharp, straight-talking, takes her job very seriously, and abides by her own rules…mostly.

Historia
Baumgartner’s life had been defined by his deep, abiding love for his wife, Anna, who was killed in a swimming accident nine years earlier. Now 71, Baumgartner continues to struggle to live in her absence as the novel sinuously unfolds into spirals of memory and reminiscence, delineated in episodes spanning from 1968, when Sy and Anna meet as broke students working and writing in New York, through their passionate relationship over the next 40 years, and back to Baumgartner’s youth in Newark and his Polish-born father’s life as a dress-shop owner and failed revolutionary.

Sounded like the ramblings of an old curmudgeon. Read by an old curmudgeon. The author was actually the perfect person to read this book, I just had a hard time appreciating it.

I’m wondering how someone who has lived his life in Britain speaks with an American accent when everyone around him speaks with a British accent? I do like the series though.

On the morning that will mark the end of the world they have known, Molly and Neil Sloan awaken to the drumbeat of rain on their roof. It has haunted their sleep, invaded their dreams, and now they rise to find a luminous silvery downpour drenching their small California mountain town. A strange scent hangs faintly in the air, and the young couple cannot shake the sense of something wrong.

Not the best Dean Koontz
Revisado: 06-13-23
I usually love anything by Koontz, but this one was not that good. I did love the narrator’s voice, but the book alternated between gratuitous gore and not holding my attention enough to follow.

Great story, wrong narrator
Revisado: 04-22-23
This is a sweet story but I wish they’d have chosen a more appropriate narrator. Devon O’Day talks too fast and does not have the accent to read characters from the Deep South. I initially wanted to return this because of her fast speech, but I kept listening and found that I like the story, just not the narrator.

Great story, awful narration
Revisado: 06-03-22
I really liked this story, however, I wish it had a better narrator. She spoke with what was nearly a monotone throughout the book. I need to make a note of who the narrator is so that I can pass on anything else that she reads.
