What did you love best about The Third Wave?
Before any "digital" entrepreneur spends time / money on a new solution, understanding from where we've come (waves 1 and 2) in important. More important, however, is understanding where Wave 3 is headed and building into the Wave and not behind it. The case for the third wave is well articulated and Case is one of few in the position to visualize where we're going (based on a deep understanding of the past).

Historia
In Super Bowl XLIX, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made one of the most controversial calls in football history: With 26 seconds remaining, and trailing by four at the Patriots' one-yard line, he called for a pass instead of a handing off to his star running back. The pass was intercepted, and the Seahawks lost. Critics called it the dumbest play in history. But was the call really that bad? Or did Carroll actually make a great move that was ruined by bad luck? Even the best decision doesn't yield the best outcome every time.

Make decision without all the data? Listen....

What other book might you compare Thinking in Bets to and why?
Annie Duke convincingly tells her story about learning poker -- really learning poker -- as a microcosm of managing decisions in the face of uncertainty and plagued by human biases. Daniel Kahneman's Thinking, Fast and Slow is a more definitive work on bias, but Duke's book both places these biases is common context (poker) and proposes actions we all can take to "work around" our sometime maladaptive biased-laden decisions.
What does Annie Duke bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Dukes reading of the book is "infective" and that she enjoys telling her story is obvious.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I'm a physician in an intensive care unit. I was hooked on this book (and then keenly interested in attempting to build on the lessons) when it became clear that world-class poker players are master decision makers in the setting of uncertainty. Regardless of how "scientific" the ICU might seem -- most decisions are made with substantial uncertainty. The biases Duke discusses and the work arounds she suggest, seem directly applicable.
