Historia
I volunteered to be a spy, not an assassin. I know this is war...but I just want to do what's right. If you ask me, none of us should be here - but no one gave me a choice. And I won't blindly follow orders. I am essential to the plan. And I will be a hero for my country. If I were normal, I wouldn't be old enough to join the army. But I'm not normal. I'm a weapon.

Lot's of stuff going on
Revisado: 03-10-17
Would you try another book from Don Winslow and/or Ray Porter?
Yes. The writing was good and I love Ray Porter. I kept getting lost in all of the
details, people, players. I think, for me, it was the subject matter that lost my interest.
Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I love Ray Porter. He's the reason I gave the book a try. Like I said, I will give one of Winslow's other books a try.

Doesn't live up to the hype
Revisado: 08-03-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The pace. It was methodical. Almost put it down several times.
Would you recommend House of Eight Orchids to your friends? Why or why not?
No. Rather tedious and boring in between the moments that were interesting.
Did Will Damron do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
No
Could you see House of Eight Orchids being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No
Any additional comments?
Boring

Imagine: A boy with a gun waits for the man who killed his mother. A troubled detective confronts her past in the aftermath of a brutal shooting. After 13 years in prison, a good cop walks free as deep in the forest, on the altar of an abandoned church, a body cools in pale linen.... This is a town on the brink. This is Redemption Road.

The bad news just keeps on coming
Revisado: 05-25-16
Would you try another book from John Hart and/or Scott Shepherd?
I have read/listened to several book by John Hart. This one was depressing. A never ending series of pain, suffering, and assaults. The narrator's delivery made the book even more depressing. He used the same voice for every character and his tone just kept you down.
It was relentless.
Would you be willing to try another book from John Hart? Why or why not?
I will read other books by John Hart. Redemption Road is overall a good book. Just not hopeful or uplifting in anyway.
How could the performance have been better?
First I'd suggest using different "voices" for different characters. At times it was hard to tell which character was talking. Second, more variance in tonal delivery. Even if the story is a big downer - a varing tonality would make it more engaging. I had to work at staying through the story. I almost quit several times. But I wanted to know where the story ended.
Could you see Redemption Road being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No

“Why is this town called Mother’s Rest?” That’s all Reacher wants to know. But no one will tell him. It’s a tiny place hidden in a thousand square miles of wheat fields, with a railroad stop, and sullen and watchful people, and a worried woman named Michelle Chang, who mistakes him for someone else: her missing partner in a private investigation she thinks must have started small and then turned lethal.

Typical Reacher
Revisado: 10-02-15
The Reacher series is feeling a bit formulaic. At times tedious. Hopefully the next one will pick up the pace and have less "filler" dialogue.

Fun book, horrible narration
Revisado: 06-15-15
I enjoyed the overall story, it was action packed. Similar plot lines to some of Dan Browns books.
I hated the narrator. His inflections were off, his accents horrible and changing throughout the characters dialogue.
I will never listen to another book with narrator. He really took away from the story.

Great Story
Revisado: 04-11-15
I was surprised that I really enjoyed the book as much as I did. The story overall was fast paced, enjoyable characters and so enjoyable.
The narrator was ok. His tempo was very quick, so much so that I checked to see if I had sped things up.

I'm not a fan of the zombie genre. I read the reviews on this book and decided to give it a try. So happy I did. The story had me right from the beginning.
The book is much more than a zombie story. It's a insightful commentary on humanity.
