Historia
The year is 1876. Warring Indian tribes still populate America's western territories, even as lawless gold-rush towns begin to mark the landscape. In much of the country, it is still illegal to espouse evolution. Against this backdrop two monomaniacal paleontologists pillage the Wild West, hunting for dinosaur fossils while surveilling, deceiving, and sabotaging each other in a rivalry that will come to be known as the Bone Wars.

standard crichton - and that ain't bad
Revisado: 01-24-24
like much of crichton's work, some of the characters are a little thin and 2 dimensional and the lot of cameos seem a little jammed in there, but also like him, the so is still a lot of fun and the science, although not always sound, often takes center stage. and brick's narration is excellent!

Frank Muller FTW
Revisado: 01-17-24
we all know that Stephen King is a genius and this story is no exception. Frank Muller however, is where it's at. he's the reason I ever got into audio books in the first place - with this very story in fact. the narrator can absolutely make or break an audiobook - as many of us also know - and he absolutely captivated me and stoked my interest in the audio format (years ago). I've even gotten many books, knowing nothing about them otherwise, simply because he narrated them. he was simply that good. sadly, he's gone now, and his initial plan of narrating the dark tower series only made it through the first 4 books. I still prefer his versions. it's you haven't heard his narration before, I strongly recommend him - and this story!

Historia
Francis Parkman's journal - written more than 150 years ago, in 1846 - provides an eye-witness account of one of the grandest adventures in American history. At age 23, the Harvard-educated Bostonian traveled the Rocky Mountains, living among the Dakota Sioux. In his journal, he captured the color, spirit, and perspective of his era, as well as the exuberant confidence that was the mark of his time. Frank Muller's dramatic reading brings this captivating record to life.

Historia
Movies (And Other Things) is a book about, quite frankly, movies (and other things). One of the chapters, for example, answers which race Kevin Costner was able to white savior the best, because did you know that he white saviors Mexicans in McFarland, USA, and white saviors Native Americans in Dances with Wolves, and white saviors Black people in Black or White, and white saviors the Cleveland Browns in Draft Day? Another of the chapters creates a special version of the Academy Awards specifically for rom-coms, the most underrated movie genre of all.

it's just like ready player one in that it's not actually that good, but just some dude trying reeeally hard to get his Nerd-Cred Badge. and he's not even that nerdy. he just praises all the biggest budget action movies if the past 30 years or so, no matter how good they were. he tries to be witty/charming/funny... but doesn't really succeed in any except maybe a tad of the second... also very much like that ready player one book. if you liked that book, you might enjoy this, but otherwise, don't bother. pretty lame.

PLEASE START LISTING CHAPTER TITLES!!!
Revisado: 09-19-19
I really wish audible would make it a regular thing to actually list the chapter titles. Especially for a book like this one. If say I want to skip to the anger management section, there's no way of knowing where that is. Right now it just says chapter 17 or whatever. Really frustrating. Makes me miss real paperback books.

Yes, it's true. The early narration is bad.
Revisado: 07-11-19
MRKs voice is so jarring, it's very hard to get into this book. Somehow, even at well over 10 hours in, it's still hard to listen to. Don't get me wrong. The story is great! It's the narration. It's nothing about "women just have a hard time doing men's voices", which I've heard others say. I've listened to many audio books, many narrated by women. They're great. That ain't it. It's a matter of bad choices and execution. Her voice is pleasant and professional and easy to listen to, and I'll just be getting into it, and then she does a foreign character and it jars me out of the moment. Her foreign and many of her male voices are so terrible. They're like middle school drama student bad. Really terrible. Mocking and loud, overly emoted and offensively off-putting. Imagine a white person trying to do a Hispanic person, and talking like Speedy Gonzales. It's that bad. At this point, unfortunately, I'm finding myself looking forward to the next section of the book, which I know is a different narrator. One thing I've always thought about audiobooks - the narrator can make our break a story. They can make it way better or totally ruin it. I hate to say it, but so far, it's the latter.

Historia
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.

better than most of the reviews
Revisado: 06-24-17
like totally bummerly, this book was super crappily rated... it's not as bad as the 2.5 rating. it's not 5 though. people may have been expecting a science book with a girl twist. this book is really not educational at all. it's 100% satire. it's told from a super slutty pop culture dumb bimbo who really knows nothing about science.... just like cosmopolitan and many other girl mags. just know going into it, it's not science, IT’S SATIRE! it's comedy. and it's actually pretty funny!
