We have been lied to
Revisado: 10-09-19
We have been lied to about this classic. This book had never been on my must read list because we had always been told this was a white story that made the Africans look as though they were nothing. It is admitted that I came close to not finishing this one because it is so depressing on how man can treat his fellow man. However, I trudged through the depression and began to realize this as not about a black man submitting himself to whites but in fact was about a black man who ends up being a picture of Christ. I was amazed. Why is this book not required reading? My bet is 95% or more who have negative thoughts on this classic have never read it. This is a MUST READ! Right there with THE BIBLE, right there with Dickens, Twain, Orwell, etc. This book has depressing parts but ends with a feeling how man via the GOD OF THE BIBLE rises above the evil of this world caused by Satan.
It is definitely not as we have been taught a pro slavery book, it is in fact anti slavery and uses the depressing images to show that. It uses these same images to show how so many put their heads in the sand during those horrible times. The so called non slave owners didn't like slavery but did nothing. In other words they believed it was a choice to have slavery or not have slavery but not their personal choice. They thought it wrong to make that choice but still saw slavery as a choice. This then can also be seen as an analogy to our modern times concerning the "right to choose" by women. What is that choice that a woman can make? The choice to murder a human being in their womb!
Yes, we have been lied to about abortion and lied to about this book. Read it for yourself, trudge through the depressing and evil images of how blacks were treated and see for yourself that in the end the book is very uplifting! God is glorified in the end as a simple man fights the temptation to give in to the evil of Satan and instead submits to God Almighty and in so doing actually helps bring freedom to a few everlasting souls! You can't get more uplifting than that.

Revisionist Bias by the Author
Revisado: 04-29-19
You can hear the revisionist history from this author especially concerning Bowie. Really harps on the bad side of Bowie and very little on the good side of this hero of Texas. Gotta really have some hate to harp on that.

Historia
Calvin Coolidge, president from 1923 to 1929, never rated highly in polls, and history has remembered the decade in which he served as an extravagant period predating the Great Depression. Now Amity Shlaes provides a fresh look at the 1920s and its elusive president, showing that the mid-1920s was in fact a triumphant period that established our modern way of life: The nation electrified, Americans drove their first cars, and the federal deficit was replaced with a surplus.

Historia
On February 23, 1836, a Mexican army thousands of soldiers strong attacked a group of roughly 200 Americans holed up in an abandoned mission just east of San Antonio, Texas. For nearly two weeks, the massive force lay siege to the makeshift fort, spraying its occupants with unremitting waves of musket and cannon fire. Then, on March 6th, at 5:30 A.M., the Mexican troops unleashed a final devastating assault: divided into four columns, they rushed into the Alamo and commenced a deadly hand-to-hand fight.

Great history!
Revisado: 04-29-19
Gives some great details from both sides concerning details of the battle. The best example is the author's detailed research concerning the story of Travis and the line in the sand. After hearing both sides, I am convinced some type of drawing a line was done by Travis and a choice given. Maybe not like the movies but something like that. VERY IMPRESSED with the research done. No bias as so many of the revisionist historians that love trying to just show the bad in historical figures so this is one of the greatest even handed books on the subject.

Constitution still applies in the 21st Century
Revisado: 11-14-18
After going through The Federalist Papers for the first time in my life, it was found that this book of papers written over 200 years ago still applies to our society today in the 21st century. Must say it is easier to listen to than to sit down and read but then the reading was meant more for research purposes than reading cover to cover as a newspapers. One can find how the Constitution actually does apply in the case of indicting a sitting POTUS. In order to indict a sitting POTUS, the sitting POTUS must be impeached first including the Senate finding for the impeachment with a 2/3 vote. If that does not apply to the discussion in 2018 for something written 230 years ago, I don't know what does. #application #Constittution #impeachment #Tagsviving #Sweepstakes

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Always beyond EXCELLENT!
Revisado: 03-13-18
If you could sum up 1984 in three words, what would they be?
Beware of godvernment
What did you like best about this story?
The warning it continually gives the reader of just how corrupt godvernment is. (Godvernment is my spelling for government in this story and in real life always wants to be god).
What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Brings believability to the story
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The individual will not be allowed to fight the god of godvernment.
Any additional comments?
When I read this book at 18, it opened my eyes to see the warning signs of government putting the whole ahead of the individual, exactly what has been creeping in long before 1984 was written, before the 20th century even began. The commune is more important than the individual, which must be fought at all costs.

Any additional comments?
For some reason one character's voice is constantly changed and read by two separate voices. The main drawback is the confusion that causes.
