Historia
On May 31, 2014, in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha, Wisconsin, two 12-year-old girls attempted to stab their classmate to death. Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier’s violence was extreme, but what seemed even more frightening was that they committed their crime under the influence of a figure born by the internet: the so-called “Slenderman”. Yet the even more urgent aspect of the story, that the children involved suffered from undiagnosed mental illnesses, often went overlooked in coverage of the case.

What about the victim?
Revisado: 06-15-23
Many people suffer from mental illness; not many people lure their best pal into the woods and brutally stab them. I thought this l book was going to be about the case, not a soliloquy about Morgan being more of a victim than Anissa.

If you've ever used ZipCar, Amazon Prime, Spotify, NetFlix, Groupon, Weight Watchers, SurveyMonkey, United Mileage Plus, Pinterest, or Twitter, you are part of The Membership Economy, an increasingly popular model that author Robbie Kellman Baxter sees as the inevitable result of technological advancements, social trends, and a generation in transition. The Membership Economy argues that we are now moving away from ownership, but we still want the benefits that come with access.

More like the business model that is killing America
Revisado: 02-07-23
Why buy a product when you can just rent it….forever. The premise is that you grow with the product but that is lip service. Even when we are able to buy devices we cannot change the battery and upgrades that were once easy are not mage more difficult. Add to that the fact companies tell us when our devices reach end of life not the device itself. Sorry. This is all fluff.

Revisado: 12-29-22
I am a white guy from the Midwest. Black Panther has been my favorite superhero since I knew what a superhero was. I never thought about him being a black superhero, just a superhero. Can we please just give the rave, religion, gender angle a rest? Not forever, just maybe like five minutes so I can listen to my childhood hero without being made to feel like I personally had something to do with him not being more mainstream. I grew up in a very culturally diverse neighborhood and no one else’s favorite hero was Black Panther; just mine.

Simply Wonderful
Revisado: 05-09-22
As a reader/listener every once in awhile a book comes around that “just fits”. One More Last Time fits the bill in that regard
The story is a feel good, well paced, exciting and humorous story about first impressions and second chances. One of my new favorites and an author/narration/production combo I will actively seek out.

Ann Rule, to me, is alone at the top of the true crime genre. Time and time….and time again she proves this point and A Fever in the Heart is no exception. I sincerely hope Ms Rule continues to garner the accolades fitting of an author of such immense talent. RIP Ms Rule.

Fool me once….
Revisado: 12-29-21
This is my second go around with a book dedicated to female serial killers and for the second time the introduction focuses on how women aren’t given their just due in the world of the serial killer. The book itself, as well as the narrator are quite good but had a tough time wading through the shallows of the oft referenced theme. Note to author: serial murder isn’t an equal rights issue and to treat it as such isn’t just missing the boat; it’s missing the ocean. Have a sit down with a victim’s family and see if feminism was a buzzword.

Langston Hughes? Richard Wright?
Revisado: 05-14-21
Nope. Nope. Nope. This was like trying to launch a rocket with a birthday candle. No juice, no direction, no traction.
Susan Smith drowned her children by driving her car into a lake while they were conscious and strapped into their car seats. She fooled no one with her false accusations and confessed a week later because if it. Yes, she was wrong to accuse a black man, and it was racist. No one was charged nor was their even a person of interest. It just seems a weak and inappropriate springboard for any type of social commentary outside of the loss of two small children in such brutal fashion.

Historia
In this provocative book, award-winning journalist Patricia Pearson argues that our culture is in denial of women's innate capacity for aggression. We don't believe that women batter their husbands or abuse the majority of children in North America. We ignore the 200 percent increase in crime by women in a period when most crime statistics are dropping. Pearson weaves the stories of women such as Karla Homolka and Mary Beth Tinning (who smothered eight of her children) with the results of criminologists and psychiatrists to expose the myth of female innocence.

Revisado: 03-06-21
Tried to get through first few chapters of the book before coming to conclusion that it is basically just one long complaint about how women don’t get their just due in regards to evil and aggression. I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that the author talks of women killing more infants than men like it’s a selling point. Can understand and appreciate the study but the delivery made me feel like I needed to shake the weird out
