Historia
The Desire of Ages lays out the life of Christ so intimately that the listener will feel as if he or she were walking the paths of Galilee with the master relaying a parable, or sitting on the Mount of Olives watching the agony of our Lord. At its heart, the book is devotional saying to the listener that Jesus Christ fulfills the deepest longings of the human soul.

Wow, what a book
Revisado: 07-06-19
So much to learn and so many opportunities to be carried away into another world where internal changes can take place.
Anything on this subject is worth experiencing and there are many who have written but I found this to be the fullest mental movie I've ever seen. The narration could be improved by holding the same level of sound from the beginning of a sentence to the end. Quite often though, the first word was the loudest and then the voice fades. Not so good to try and fall asleep to and I love listening to this subject while I'm entering dreamsville too. Wow, what a writer !

When David talks, it just gets too hard to hear without straining and this takes the pleasure out of absorbing his unique wisdom. If you can put up with the sound levels you'll definitely learn much. I just don't want to have to fight to hear it all properly.

Solitude was more the Cat's
Revisado: 07-15-18
I reached chapter 22 of 32 and stopped. Up until then I felt every fluctuation. In listening I found I developed a need to tell this guy to learn to be content. That's all, just learn to be content. He read other people's books and every time he spoke about them his voice was never his. It was like he was impressed with things and want also to impress. He even spoke of parts he disagreed with and I sat thinking "So put the book down, you already are who you are, develop THAT - don't waste time trying to regurgitate the ideas of someone else as if they are now yours." I liked this guy and I loved what he was out there for. I did however, find it very hard to understand why he could claim to SEE what some of these other authors were saying but he couldn't see what was right under his own nose.... he was ill treating the CAT and that didn't seem to matter enough to even WANT to fix. He was more connected to a set of ducks that wouldn't let him near and less connected to a cat who wanted him to be nearer. Robert, you don't need to books. They are just other men trying to work through their own stuff. Leave them to theirs, they do NOT have what you have. Work with what you have and learn to be content.
I had to stop when you talked about sexual fantasies about your Mother and masturbating over it. Just because Freud said so doesn't mean it's true. He was just another man trying to sort out HIS mess. No one has YOUR fingerprints.. No one has YOUR mind. Be yourself. Go where there is no path and create your own instead of trying like hell to absorb other people's thoughts and experiences. The oak tree is already in the acorn. Let it grow.
Later...................
Okay, I went back and finished the book. Although I still am not happy about the sexual aspect with his 'Mother" which I thought should have just been left out completely, there was one thing I found I ended up appreciating about this book. I began to enjoy the visual painting of the surroundings and that seemed to end up being enough for me to say I received another perspective on solitude. That said, I will never listen to it again, and I sincerely hope this author finds himself and doesn't become the amalgamation of other regurgitated minds. When he spoke authentically, he was enough in my eyes.

Historia
Like a well-crafted stage play, Just Passin' Thru delivers one suspenseful scene after another. But in this historic setting a store on the Appalachian Trail called Mountain Crossings the characters who show up are no fictional creations. Like any good drama, there are the good guys (and gals) and the weirdos, too. Some show up once (and that’s enough), and some appear again and again. But all are united by two things: the author’s story-capturing talent, and whatever it is that lures them to attempt (or conquer) a 2,200-mile path that climbs and plummets from Georgia to Maine.

Mr Porter got me caughter
Revisado: 04-28-18
To see thru his eyes and mind for nearly 7 hours is an internal growth in itself. I thoroughly enjoyed watching him unfold in the various circumstances. No visitor to his store was the same as another, but Mr Porter carried his integrity into each relationship with such easy, simply because, I think it's obviously a built-in trait of his. I liked that, I needed that.
I enjoyed the respect, I enjoyed the understanding and I enjoyed the family atmosphere too. Little bits of important knowledge float throughout and I found them all easy to remember because they are portrayed with real sincerity and so naturally. I'm listening for the second time after leaving it for a few months. Again, I am so taken with the integrity of his character. The Narrator, Mr Jones Allen was fantastic and did the book an enormous justice.
Well, I was just passin' Thru and thought I'd leave a comment.
If you choose to buy this one, I think you will simply love the atmosphere and the touching gift of a mental holiday.

Didn't do it for me
Revisado: 11-05-17
I found Ashleigh to be very immature in a number of places and that was extremely annoying. The story was a little too "Days of our lives" - "Mills and Boon" for me also. The narrator just didn't get it right when he was Ashleigh. And to top it off, I skipped every chapter that went back to Ben's life with his wife Rachel because it was just too boring. I like survival stories so I stuck to that part only even though it was all a bit far fetched. Still, I kept persevering. Ben, the Doctor, did everything, even though he was injured. Every now and then there would be a reminder that he was injured. The rest of the time, he was doing things that didn't correspond with his injuries. Anyway, enough said. I'll find a more suitable author I think.

Not what I thought
Revisado: 07-10-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Anyone who doesn't like traveling alone
Would you ever listen to anything by Rita Golden Gelman again?
I think I'd be cautious
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The performance was pretty good actually.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I felt slightly deceived by the fact that this Nomad didn't like to be alone and went to unusual lengths to make sure she wasn't.
Any additional comments?
In one respect, the fact that she demonstrated her ability to find company would be a bonus for some. She has, in her renditions of joining others, given readers who might be inclined with the same need, mental permission and a practical application that could prove worth it to them. But this style was not for me and so I couldn't finish the book. I was not interested in how a meal was made and how long it took to make it etc. I wanted to know her philosophical outlook and the way traveling was pulling it in certain directions for better or worse. One thing this lady did, she got up and made her world better than it was rather than sitting and moping about. That holds inspiration for anyone. My opinion shouldn't deter from the art of her contribution to Audible. My opinion has more to do with what I am needing at the moment rather than what she is offering.

Historia
As she was digging deep into the lives of community members, Heather Lende, the obituary writer for her tiny hometown newspaper in Haines, Alaska, began to notice something. Even the crustiest old Alaskan sourpuss who died in a one-room cabin always had Halloween candy for the neighborhood kids, and the eccentric owner of the seafood store who regularly warned her about government conspiracies knew how to be a true friend - his memorial service was packed.

A mental Holiday for me
Revisado: 08-02-16
If you could sum up Find the Good in three words, what would they be?
Relaxing Warm Friendly
Who was your favorite character and why?
Everyone Heather spoke about because she brought them to life in such a natural way.
What about Heather Lende’s performance did you like?
I loved the fact that she read this book like she was living it. Actually, Heather spoke the whole book to the reader. It was as if you'd known her all her life and you and her were sitting having a cuppa together. It was as if she had been away and stayed in a small country town for a while and she was back, and telling you, her best friend, all about her stay and the people she met who lived there. It was real. It was real because it was spoken in a real and natural way.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Find the Good?
My main insight application would come from the writers aspect. I learned from Helen's dialogue sections. I learned from her ways of introducing certain aspects and linking others.
However, I will remember the name of the book because I enjoyed the whole story and the way it was told. This in itself will move me to remember to apply it's title when I find myself sliding into anything that resembles the critical. I'll probably smile to myself and think - find the Good here instead dear.
Any additional comments?
I rarely read or listen to novels. My choice is usually self-help, psychology, inspirational, biography, religious or just plain non-fiction. I chose this book to walk along side an Obituary writer and explore her mind knowing her occupation was one that draws heavy on the emotions.
I know now, that Heather's coping medication is "Find the Good" and it was very inspiring to journey along with this through the different characters. Thanks Heather, for a wonderful light and friendly telling of the people in that town.
