Historia
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity and impartiality are the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the orderly and efficient flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? It’s rare, but it happens. Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct.

Outstanding narration!

I love books that keep me guessing and turning pages. The Whistler definitely did that. John Grisham is a brilliant novelist. I actually gasped, tested up, and cheered my way through this one.

Historia
Raymond Jaffe feels like he doesn’t belong. Not with his mother’s new family. Not as a weekend guest with his father and his father’s wife. Not at school, where he’s an outcast. After his best friend moves away, Raymond has only two real connections: to the feral cat he’s tamed and to a blind ninety-two-year-old woman in his building who’s introduced herself with a curious question: Have you seen Luis Velez?

Important subject; poor narration
Revisado: 03-17-21
The subject is extremely important to share. I applaud Randis for her brave candor and ability to verbalize what can make the “system” work better for victims.
The story was tough. The narrative, at times, was ... I’m looking for the correct adjective... dry. It read like a psychology text book at times.
While it’s sometimes helpful to have the author read, it was not a good choice in this instance. She lacked prosody and every character was the same voice, tone, pitch.
I hope this book helps victims to come forward and I hope her work teaches others how to deal better with domestic abuse.

The plot twists and connections of past and present, royalty of England and princely States of British India, and amazing characters make this book one I didn’t want to put down! I learned quite a bit about Princess Indira and Cooch Baher on my own (except maybe the recollection of their spelling lol), which I always love to do as a follow up to historical fiction books. RECOMMENDED

Badly wounded, he found refuge in a ruined monastery and in the arms of Sofia Bartoli. But the love that kindled between them was shaken by an irreversible betrayal. Nearly 30 years later, Hugo's estranged daughter, Joanna, has returned home to the English countryside to arrange her father's funeral. Among his personal effects is an unopened letter addressed to Sofia. In it is a startling revelation.
