Historia
Waking up one wintry morning in her old farmhouse nestled in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, Nora Hamilton instantly knows that something is wrong. When her fog of sleep clears, she finds her world is suddenly, irretrievably shattered: Her husband, Brendan, has committed suicide. The first few hours following Nora’s devastating discovery pass for her in a blur of numbness and disbelief. Then, a disturbing awareness slowly settles in: Brendan left no note and gave no indication that he was contemplating taking his own life.

Not a great read. Not a horrible review. A bit predictable and drawn out but kept my attention.

Historia
Chef José Andrés arrived in Puerto Rico four days after Hurricane Maria ripped through the island. The economy was destroyed, and for most people there was no clean water, no food, no power, no gas, and no way to communicate with the outside world. Andrés addressed the humanitarian crisis the only way he knew how: by feeding people, one hot meal at a time.

Hates this read!!!
Revisado: 12-13-24
I wish I could give this book zero stars. I truly wanted to love a book based on people coming together to feed a nation that was in dire need; who wouldn’t. Unfortunately this book wasn’t about that at all. It was so selfish and centered around the author and his ego. It was so, so hard to keep reading. There was no character development, no connection made to the people helping or being helped. It was all “me”, “I”, “me”. SMH…for a book that is meant to be about helping others, it left me wanting for sure.

Could not love it more
Revisado: 12-13-24
Kristin Hannah has quickly become one of my favorite authors and she once again did not disappoint! She told a story that she’s so much light in the challenges faced for all soldiers in the Vietnam War with added focus on the women. I felt so many emotions while reading and could truly empathize with every character. What an amazing read; educational and riveting.

Historia
Washington, DC, 1950. Everyone keeps to themselves at Briarwood House, a down-at-the-heels all-female boardinghouse in the heart of the nation’s capital where secrets hide behind white picket fences. But when the lovely, mysterious widow Grace March moves into the attic room, she draws her oddball collection of neighbors into unlikely friendship. Grace’s weekly attic-room dinner parties and window-brewed sun tea become a healing balm on all their lives, but she hides a terrible secret of her own.

Must Read
Revisado: 12-13-24
I absolutely loved this book! The idea of the house being a main character was so unique but truly brought everything together. I loved the characters, how the story was told from varying perspectives and absolutely loved the camaraderie that was built from a place that was once just a place to pass through. And…the recipes were fantastic and truly felt like they had a place in the book! I had to go get a hard copy just to have them at hand!

Historia
We spend an average of 33 years of our lives asleep. But what really happens, and what are we capable of, when we sleep? Anna Ogilvy was a budding twenty-five-year-old writer with a bright future. Then, one night, she stabbed two people to death with no apparent motive—and hasn’t woken up since. Dubbed “Sleeping Beauty” by the tabloids, Anna’s condition is a rare psychosomatic disorder known to neurologists as “resignation syndrome.”

Not for me
Revisado: 12-13-24
This book was definitely not for me. It felt cumbersome and overdone at parts while other parts were lacking a connection to the storyline and ending. It was much longer than needed and I found myself anxious for it to end.

A Great Christmas Read
Revisado: 12-13-24
The book is admittedly a bit predictable but I found it to be such a great Christmas time read. The characters were super relatable, the scenery made you long for a white Christmas and it was filled with happy endings. This was the perfect bookclub book for the holidays!
