Meaningful, Deep and Beautifully Written

This is a deeply honest and beautifully written reflection on life, based on the author's personal experiences. It is worth reading by anyone interested in self-discovery. Unfortunately, Lamott's narration doesn't do it justice, perhaps because of the deeply personal subject matter. Susan Bennett, who narrated Lamott's Bird by Bird, might have been a better choice. Or, perhaps, this is the kind of book that should be read, rather than listened to.

Balanced and Authoritative

A thoughtful and timely discussion of the challenges involved in holding a President accountable for his misconduct. The author, a member of Ken Starr's staff during the Clinton investigation, presents a remarkably balanced and nuanced historical discussion of the legal questions that are implicated when a President is suspected of violating the law. After examining the key historical precedents, the author reaches the surprising conclusion that what ultimately appears to determine the outcome of such investigations is not so much questions of law, but unwritten traditions establishing shared expectations about the kind of behavior each of the three branches of government can expect of each other.

One Sided and Misleading

This provides a basic introduction into the Supreme Court's First and Fourth Amendment decisions in the 20th Century, but the analysis is not balanced. Rosen approaches the subject from an extreme civil libertarian point of view, and seems utterly unable to present the other side's arguments with any sympathy, even if those arguments persuaded a majority of the Supreme Court.

What made the experience of listening to Swann In Love the most enjoyable?

I could listen to Richardson read the phone book. The book is abridged, so the listing is misleading, but it is a very nice selection so that isn't such a big deal.
