Meg's sister-in-law, Delaney, is pregnant. Since her due date is on or around Christmas Day, this is putting a bit of a damper on the usual holiday festivities. Meg and Michael are NOT hosting the usual house full of relatives and parties. Instead, Meg, along with her mother, her grandmother, her cousin Rose Noire, and her good friend Caroline, are militantly doing everything they can think of to keep Delaney quiet and healthy.

incredibly well-written
Revisado: 10-21-24
applaud Donna Andrews for another fun family Christmas murder mystery. I look forward to the Christmas book every year! Never disappointed.
Also, happy to see she recongnizes to at least mention her sister Pam. it just seems strange ti have a sister early on but who no longer visits. The best books are with the family clan.
The last few have been more Meg centric, it was a little strange she was becoming an absent parent but Donna Andrews has remedy the problem the last few books.

missed the family, author seems to be making the main character more and more like an absentee parent in the last few books. Miss the family interaction from before.

Finally an unabridged version. narrator too scottish/irish brogue style for my taste. But not unpleasant. Hard for a new narrator to come in after Scott Brick and John Lee. Narration for previous volumes is amazing.

Still fun but characters weakening each book
Revisado: 09-27-22
I really loved the first 3 books. Mack and Eric were both strong characters. They seem to weaken as if the author isn't sure where to take them. Don't get me wrong still enjoyed the mystery plot but the first 3 books were "Spot-on". If Shannon says "My Hero" one more time.Ugh.....this is a cozy mystery not a cheesy romance novel. Shannon's group of friends, father, and Uncle Pete continue to be written out, hopefully that can revert to including them again with divying up the murder tracking tasks. We will see.

Not the usually Strong cozy mystery in series
Revisado: 09-24-22
The narrator overpowered on side character voices, which is never a good choice when replacing a previously popular narrator. The author also deviated from her normal plot line. Mack and Shannon's interactions were more like a cheesy romance novel than the usually fun let's gather a suspect list and dig in. Hopefully the next book goes back to what was already a fun storyline. Plot in general for a cozy mystery had a nice twist but was so distracted from both narrator and author deviations in series didn't enjoy as much compared to previous installment s in series.

Amazing Christmas Edition as usual!
Revisado: 02-15-21
Just when you think there is no possible way Donna Andrews can pull out and even better than Christmas edition she manages to surprise us yet again. Funny, warm, strong cozy mystery characters what else can be said. other Bernadette Dunn was the voice actress for this series I can't imagine any other person voicing these narrations. probably a riot and book boycott if anyone tries to replace her.

Revisado: 12-22-20
I wasn't sure when I first started this series, I was at the end of all my favorites and must wait for the yearly release which then caught in a few hours. Dread when that happens. This series appealed to me base on reviews, well and the fact there are over 20 already! It will keep me busy. The first 2 seemed a little over the top and the family like a bad sitcom to me. I know I know sounds like a bad review but the last 3 books the quirky family grows on you and reeled in to not be so outrageous. This book was awesome and I didn't even figure out "Who Dunnit" until close to the end. The end had a twist causing me to doubt my final selection which was awesome!

Thought he had fallen asleep decided to switch to music. All I heard was MOM! what are you doing I'm listening to that. LOL

Meg Langslow's summer is not going swimmingly. In her small Virginia hometown, she's the maid of honor at the nuptials of three loved ones - each of whom has dumped the planning in her hands. One bride is set on including a Native American herbal purification ceremony while another wants live peacocks on the lawn. But when an offensive newcomer, who hints at skeletons in the guests' closets, is found dead under suspicious circumstances, level-headed Meg's to-do list extends from flower arrangements and bridal registries to catching a killer - before the next event is her own funeral.

Why did I wait so long
Revisado: 08-17-19
Finding new authors in cozy mysteries can be difficult. Everyone's tastes are dramatically different as they should be. I hesitated to read Donna Andrews even with all the great reviews and awards due to the comments always on "Wacky" or "Kooky" characters. Generally those have no depth. I ran out of my regular and plunged into the painful depths of finding a new author for the summer with more than 3 titles. I have a rule about established series. I don't want to waste my time with 1 and done. This was a pleasant surprise for a first book. Characters of a small town, with some quirks but I have Kentucky relatives so it seemed normal. Best part I took me a bit to figure out for sure who did it and even at the end I thought maybe I was wrong Those are the best kind. I'm thrilled there are 25 in the series. If at book 3 I'm still intrigued. She is a keeper for an author.
