Love this audiobook so much, I’ve listened to it three times. Crisply written. Smart dialogue. The narration is absolutely perfect.

Mediocre writing. Flat characters. Flat storytelling. Contrived dialogue and tension. And the narration… melodramatic at times, with infomercial-like tone and peculiar inflections throughout. Commonplace descriptions. Just meh.

Immensely annoying narration

I likely would have rated the story higher had my enjoyment of it not been so diminished by the insanely annoying, 1950s-used-car-salesman narrator.

clinical and detached waste of audible credit

This book is no different from most on the topic - a compilation of anecdotes and case studies peppered with failed attempts at being chummy with the reader. I was hoping for an actual approach to healing - not a bloated primer on habits and addictive behaviors. I don’t need to know how the reward system developed in humans millennia ago to heal. Just once, I wish one of these authors would focus on what READERS actually NEED to know to heal, rather than what THEY WANT to say because they think it makes them sound learned and profound.

Weirdest narration cadence

This narrator could be very good, and the information is great. But the weird, inexplicable pauses that do nothing to emphasize points just make it super annoying to listen to.

Not up to Longmire standards

NOTE: I love me some Walt Longmire/George Guidall. However comma but…

This one wasn’t at quite the same level. As for the narration, the pace, inflection, switching from character to character - things were just off for the first ~75% of this book. I actually listened to it at 1.05 speed so it sounded somewhat “normal.” And, the characters felt flat, very much lacking the depth and amusing banter that makes the regular cast of characters so lovable. Even Walt’s character was, well, he took on a trait I abhor - brooding. I hate brooding. It’s for teenagers and no one else. And I abhor it in teenagers too.

Never disappoints

Few can write dialogue this good. Thoroughly entertaining story and perfect narration. Can’t wait to listen to the next Craig Johnson book.

What’s with the loud background music???

It’s difficult to hear and impossible to focus on what is being said because of the background music. The attempt to create some sort of mystical listening experience ruins the entire thing. Will not be listening again.
