Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Great Listen and Story Concept!
Revisado: 12-13-23
Dungeon Crawler Carl popped up on my "you might like list". I had read other lit rpgs. I wasn't particularly looking forward to this book. I needed to use up some credits and thought it might be an enjoyable read. But IT WAS AWESOME! It's like a blend of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with an MMO. It's not overly RPG forward. The story is incredibly well thought out and insanely entertaining. The voice acting is great, too. I'm excited to get the rest of the series!

The apocalypse will be televised! You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Being stuck with her prize-winning show cat. And you know what’s worse than that? An alien invasion, the destruction of all man-made structures on Earth, and the systematic exploitation of all the survivors for a sadistic intergalactic game show. That’s what. Join Coast Guard vet Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive the end of the world—or just get to the next level—in a video game–like, trap-filled fantasy dungeon.

Historia
The father of three sons, a journalist, and a Brookings Institution scholar, Richard V. Reeves has spent twenty-five years worrying about boys both at home and work. His new book, Of Boys and Men, tackles the complex and urgent crisis of boyhood and manhood. Reeves looks at the structural challenges that face boys and men and offers fresh and innovative solutions that turn the page on the corrosive narrative that plagues this issue. Of Boys and Men argues that helping the other half of society does not mean giving up on the ideal of gender equality.

A very relevant and great book
Revisado: 03-21-23
Heard Richard Reeves on NPR and knew I had to give this book a listen, I'm glad I did. It's incredibly relevant and brings up so many great points about the struggles of the modern man and boys. As a man and father to young men, I found it pertinent. Thanks for the great read and I hope we can tackle some of these issues in the near future.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

He Said/she said
Revisado: 03-20-23
Will Wheaton does a passable job at narration. He doesn't use different voices and they compensated by him saying "Bob said" A LOT! It gets kind of overwhelming at times but you get used to it. This book is worth a read if you're a Star Trek fan but I just couldn't bare to give it 5 stars because of the "He saids". Again, it's worth a read but you've ben warned.

Pretty Solid Book
Revisado: 09-27-22
The story is great but I got lost in some of the combat (not really my thing). I found myself having to go back and repeat large sections of this book nefarious is very very combat heavy.
Overall very enjoyable book series so far. If you're not familiar with RPG's I don't know if it would be a enjoyable. Yhe world building is great and may of set your need to love RPGs.

Historia
For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself. Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

Revisado: 08-19-22
Such an awesome series, it's enjoyable, deep but not too heavy and Roger Wayne may be one of THE best audio book narrators of all time!
Check it out, you won't be disappointed. Also check out all of Drew Hayes' other works, most notably (in my opinion) Fred the Vampire Accountant and 5 Minute Sherlock. Those are some of my favorites but I can't imagine him putting out anything that would disappoint.
Thanks for the awesome escapes from reality, Drew, it's much needed!

Historia
Twenty-eight florins a month is a huge price to pay for a man to stand between you and the Wild. Twenty-eight florins a month is nowhere near enough when a wyvern's jaws snap shut on your helmet in the hot stink of battle, and the beast starts to rip the head from your shoulders. But if standing and fighting is hard, leading a company of men - or worse, a company of mercenaries - against the smart, deadly creatures of the Wild is even harder. It takes all the advantages of birth, training, and the luck of the devil to do it.

No Hook Until Book 3
Revisado: 09-17-21
Cameron has a story to tell. I'm glad I didn't give up. The end book is a bit disappointing but it's a solid concept that's unique and Cameron is great with historical fiction in a medieval setting.
You will be very lost until book 3ish. When Cameron sets the hook. I was insanely annoyed with the the "not Roman" "not English" "not French" world building until he sets the hook and it all makes sense.
***SPOILER***
In a nut shell, mythical higher powers transport medieval humans to another world/dimension to fight their mortal enemy. Humans stay culturally stagnant for thousands of years because they have magic and are constantly fighting other humans and other races that were brought to help fight the enemy.
Cool concept, just don't know why he takes so long to start reeling the reader in. The first two books are tough without this bit of informantion as you can tell by other reviews.
Voice actor changes partway through and I missed Matthew Wolf in later books. I fell in love with his voice.
Solid series. Good concept. Don't know if I'd ever go back for a listen but glad I gave it a shot.

Historia
In the climax of the Traitor Son Cycle, the allied armies of the Wild and the Kingdoms of men and women must face Ash for control of the gates to the hermetical universe, and for control of their own destinies. But exhaustion, treachery, and time may all prove deadlier enemies. In Alba, Queen Desiderata struggles to rebuild her kingdom wrecked by a year of civil war, even as the Autumn battles are fought in the west. In the Terra Antica, the Red Knight attempts to force his unwilling allies to finish the Necromancer instead of each other.

Meh ending to a solid concept
Revisado: 09-17-21
This just felt rushed and didn't fill in a lot of the loose ends.
Just like most of the series, I felt like I only knew half of what was going on. I could have definitely used a dim-whit character to every now and then say, "what just happen" or "why are we doing it this way." Perhaps if I was not working while listening or had read the book, I would feel differently.
The story just ends, then there's a 5 minute epilogue that ties up nothing ... Just, we defeated the bad guy and road off into the sunset. No more information about the gates. Why did Ash turn bad? Can we trust the other dragons? Maybe I missed something but I'm an avid audiobook listener and this one was a tough pill to swallow.
Medieval knights and traditions in an alternate reality was pretty fun if you like historical fiction. Cameron had a story he wanted to tell, just wish he would have slowed down a bit and dumbed it down every now and then. It was hard to digest in parts. I'm still glad I took a chance on this series but don't know if I'll ever go back for another listen.
