Like a car alarm, bagpipe music, or a doorbell ringing in the middle of the night, hearing this all-new audio edition of The Bad Beginning will only upset you. This unique multi-voice recording brings the first book in Lemony Snicket's alarming A Series of Unfortunate Events to such terrible life that no one should really have to experience it.

heard better
Revisado: 10-18-23
I've listened to this book narrated by Tim Curry before and loved it. This dramatisation is terrible. the background sounds and music are too loud and distract from the story. I hope the others aren't like this. It completely ruined the whole experience.

Hunter? Really? I loved it up until that last closing part. It was well written. Except for that last closing part. Just, nope.

Trigger warning. This type of book is NOT something I’m interested in and I would like to know BEFORE the violent sex fantasy scene that the book contains this.

SLOW
Revisado: 01-12-21
This book is written so that a lot goes into the inner dialogue of the main character and very little goes into character development and the plot of the story. In the end, I gave up on the whiney Toby and quit listening. I’m glad I didn’t spend money on this complete waste of time.

Boring

I guess if you like Jane Austen, you’ll like this book. I find her stories incredibly boring. I can’t even make myself finish listening to even half of it.

Not the Best
Revisado: 04-19-19
This narrator is the worst. He made the women sound like ditzes and the men sound like ignorant douchebags.
The storyline was good, but I think the characters were poorly written. Roberts has a way of making her female characters incredibly annoying. In all the trilogies I’ve read/listened to, at least one character is written just like this one and she’s always irritating. The romance was shallow and predictable too. I think this may be one of the last trilogies of hers that I read.

When the Doctor and Donna visit London's Technology Museum for a glimpse into the future, things don't go to plan. The most brilliant IT brain in the country can't use her computer. More worrying, the exhibits are attacking the visitors, while outside, people seem to be losing control of the technology that runs their lives. Is it all down to simple human stupidity, or is something more sinister going on?

I thought this was going to be a book narrated by the actors, instead it was a dramatization. It took me awhile to get into the style, but in the end I liked it.

Fabulous story, So-so narration

I loved this story. Susanna Kearsley remains my favorite female author. The narration was only okay. At times it sounded very robotic and unnatural, but it wasn’t bad enough to make me quit listening.

Fabulous family saga of secrets held through two generations, set against the atmospheric background of the Lake District at Christmas. The year 1936 is drawing to a close. Winter grips Wetmoreland and causes a rare phenonmenon: The lakes freeze. For two local families, the Richardsons and the Grindleys, this will bring unexpected upheaval, as the frozen lake entices long-estranged siblings and children to return home for the holiday season.

Mediocre
Revisado: 02-06-18
What did you like best about The Frozen Lake? What did you like least?
Since I didn't hate this book, there had to be something I liked, but I can't think of it. I hate the way it was written! It would have been amazing if it were one of those slipping in and out of time stories, but this was written in a way that by the time the "mystery" was revealed, I already had it all figured out.
Would you recommend The Frozen Lake to your friends? Why or why not?
Nope. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend a book that is so poorly written and mostly boring.
What does Nicolette McKenzie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She was a fair narrator. I think if I were reading this book or it had a bad narrator, I would have just put it down.
Do you think The Frozen Lake needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Please, no! I cannot take anymore of the melodrama of these dumb families and the panty-waist relatives.
Any additional comments?
I'm going to give this author one more shot, if that one is as stupid as this one, I'm not touching another of her books. I mean, in at least 20 years of the matriarch dominating her family to the point of emotional and verbal abuse, not one person, even her husband, has the nerve to stand up for one another? No thanks.
