Have a special affection for this book, not least of which because it was published the year of my birth. It was written in three parts, something that comes across as obvious, but they all surround the same central event, the creation of the electron pump. My favorite part is the second, which takes place in the para-Universe that the electron pump is exchanging matter with. Asimov is said to have been most happy with this book, especially the second part, where he most moved out of his comfort zone. The book has so many interesting ideas and concepts that show up in later SF, not least of which are strong-willed and smart female characters. Just a very rich and satisfying work that exemplifies the comfort of being in the hands of such a thoughtful and knowledgeable author.

I only bought this out of general interest, and found the material poorly presented and organized for large portions. I find it hard to imagine this being a helpful book for the friends and family of the newly diagnosed. Advice for family and friends doesn't even start until Chapter 5. Prior to that there is an odd, impersonal tone that feels flat (ironic). Reads like a pamphlet at times, making overly generalized statements with no mention of references. And once it does actually get to advice for family and friends much of the guidance sounds cursory, and is even contradictory at times, and is anything but heartening. Not completely without value, but I would be hesitant to recommend.

I've been using different Italian language audio guides for six months now, including a bunch of Pimsleur and Innovative Language, and this is hands down the best I've heard yet for quick conversation acquisition. The repetition definitely helps. Most of the material wasn't new to me, so can't be 100% about how it would sound to a beginner, but I found the review very powerful and the new material well presented. Much like learning a language from an Italian speaker. Wish I'd found it earlier.

I found it a useful program and have listened to it a couple times now. Good for the usual review, for learning how to say the alphabet, for suggesting activities, for using the phone and making appointments, and for asking about the weather. One aspect I occasionally found frustrating was the habit of asking you to say the phrases while reviewing, without giving a final confirmation of what they are afterwards. Very odd. Otherwise a pretty strong program.

Fascinating topic, excellent and robust examination. I found the Professor's pronunciation of certain words really irritating (is it an American mid-west thing to say 'impordant' and 'wridden,' or 'liderature?) Anyway, probably a petty complaint at best, and certainly didn't prevent me from being greatly disappointed once I finished. I wanted more!

Highlights for me: the overview of the psychological 'why' theories of Myth, the importance and relevance of Classic Myth in Western culture today, and a better understanding of Ovid's Metamorphoses in its cultural context. I do wish there was a more thorough examination of the different uses of Myth specific to the Romans, as opposed to the Greeks, however.

Will definitely listen to again

Logical progression in this strong program. Very useful and helpful to listen to repeatedly. Will continue to purchase Pimsleur.

certainly not an overview of the myths themselves, but an interesting albeit quick overview of the significance of classical myth through history (as the "manure" to our current western culture). Led me to looking up unfamiliar concepts and authors, always the sign of a stimulating read (listen). Worth repeat listening

Strong content, with genuinely helpful advice on coping during a really challenging time. Unfortunately, I found the narrator's voice to be really irritating and distracting. Was definitely still helpful though, especially to listen to while at work, which I found to be a particularly difficult time. Will listen through a few more times, but really wish it had a different reader.

I've been listening to various programs over the last few weeks in preparation for an upcoming solo trip to Italy, including the innovative learning series, and this is probably the best for becoming conversational the fastest. I feel that other programs complement this approach, as I also want to be able to read Italian, but I feel that Pimsleur's structured repetition approach is the most like learning a language in situ. I have a basic foundation now, and Pimsleur is taking me to the next level in actually speaking, which is exactly what I was looking for.

As disappointed as I was to not find out about what happened with Alessio and Melissa (did they get together or not? ;), this second volume is very effective. will listen to it several times.
