Historia
The options for the penniless daughter of a deceased earl are few indeed in Regency England. So, following the suspicious death of her father and the discovery that she and her much younger sister have been left without income or home, Lady Caroline takes a post as a lady's companion to the wealthy widow Frogerton. Just as Caroline is getting accustomed to her new position, her aunt, Lady Eleanor Greenwood, invites her and her employer to a house party in the countryside to celebrate her youngest daughter's birthday. But all is not well at the Greenwood estate.

Story good; narrator needs to improve!
Revisado: 10-14-24
The story is detailed & well plotted. The writing is good, But the narrator’s sing-song performance detracts from the Audible book. What is irritating is that when she reads some of the characters’ dialogue, she does not use the sing-song voice, so she can do so much better than she does for the main character and for the general narration. It sounds like an AI voice is doing much of the reading! I would like to read/listen to other books by this author but the narrator gives me pause.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Very Disappointing! Why this book has good reviews is a mystery
Revisado: 06-29-24
After all the hype about this book I expected a better story & performance. I slogged through 15 hours of this waiting for it to improve, but it hasn’t. I won’t waste 4 more hours. Don’t waste your time. The characters are not likable, but not drawn with enough passion to stir hate or any emotion at all—as if the reader is viewing them from 1000 feet up. The book drags,

Mystery Fans pass this one by- there is no mystery here!
Revisado: 06-10-24
This is not a mystery. I’m not kidding. It is in the wrong category. It should be listed as Christian fiction. I suffered all the way through this to see if there was any mystery at all, but No! No Ms Marple, no sleuthing, and way Too Long for such a thin plot. Terribly disappointing! On the positive side, it was clean. Put it in the Christian category & RETITLE IT, and perhaps it could find an audience. As to the virtual voice reading, there is no point to having virtual voice “read” an audible book. May as well have Alexa read a Kindle book. There is such a discernable pattern to the virtual voice reading of sentences that it is annoying. I will not listen to another virtual voice book.

Pretty good
Revisado: 05-05-24
If I never hear “Holy shitballs!” again it will be too soon. Pretty good plot, but it drags in places & some of the conversation between the main characters was repetitive. All the themed tours of the mansion was a funny touch. Performances were pretty good. I did listen to the author’s next book, You Only Die Twice, and it is quite good.

Historia
Bo Tully is the sheriff of Blight County, Idaho, where law enforcement is usually pretty mundane: tracking down truants running away from school, picking up country boys who've had a few too many beers. But Tully gets a little more than the country norm when an ex-con calls with the startling news that there's a corpse draped across one of his fences.

Happy Birthday- here’s your murder present!
Revisado: 04-10-24
I enjoyed the wisecracking interplay between the sheriff & his father, the former sheriff. This is an action-packed mystery that made me laugh out loud. The characters are a hoot. This was my first book by this author but will not be my last. I enjoyed the reader’s performance, but his voice dropped a lot sometimes & was hard to hear, requiring volume adjustments.

Another romp with Richard & Valerie
Revisado: 03-25-24
The story was well plotted. It kept me guessing until the end. The characters are likable and outrageous while still managing to be believable. This book seemed a little more serious in tone than the earlier books, which have some ridiculous, laugh-out-loud scenes that I missed in this one, but there are lots of chuckles here. Mr. Moore has a rare gift for writing comedy. We need Moore laughter in the world! I look forward to reading/listening to more hilarious mysteries about the doings of Richard, Valerie and the Follet Valley gang!

I gave this a chance for about 4 hours too long. Meh. Not worth the time. The plot becomes extremely trite & predictable. I detested the quavery voice of the narrator & could not finish it. There are too many other good books to read/ listen to.

Three Musketeers!…er, Lady Dragons!
Revisado: 03-13-24
This long-awaited new Karen Fritz novel is finally here! This was a fun read, with well-drawn characters, an intriguing mystery, and edge of your seat scenes too. After I started the story, I knew my husband would love it, so I started it over to listen to it together. We both chuckled and laughed, although not always at the same places. There were places where I could not possibly have stopped listening and gone to bed! I could picture the characters “committing” the action so clearly — this would make a great movie! I loved the three very different protagonists, especially Martha, and the interchange between the dragons and Nelson. In the very best mystery style, Ms. Fritz gives readers the clues necessary to solve the mystery — one of us solved the mystery and one of us didn’t. It took me a little time to adjust to the reader’s style, but after I did, I really enjoyed her performance and the way she distinguished the voices of the different characters. I hope there are more stories about the lady dragons soon. I will definitely read or listen to them!

A fun, well crafted story!
Revisado: 03-04-24
I loved the light tone of the book! The plot is ingenious & the premise for the involvement of the amateur sleuths is believable within the world of the story and well constructed— a thing as rare as a unicorn. The characters are enjoyable. The narrator did a great job in distinguishing all the characters, especially the male characters. The only flaw in the reading, for me, was the voice for the Val character, which was annoying, but did not spoil the story. I would love to read A Gentleman’s Guide To Ghost Hunting! I hope there are more light-hearted Arbi mysteries by Ms Martin.
