Historia
Satisfying her hunger for epicurean adventure in the French provinces, small-town caterer and minister’s wife Faith Fairchild decides to throw the perfect dinner party. But during cleanup, after the last guest has departed her gastronomical triumph, she encounters something neither expected nor welcome: a dead body lying in her vestibule. Unfortunately it doesn’t help la belle americaine’s credibility when the corpse vanishes before the local gendarmes arrive. But Faith realizes that, though the police refuse to take her seriously, a killer just might.

Too Much French
Revisado: 03-26-25
There were far too many French words and references that it took away from the story. I’m sorry I wasted a credit on it and didn’t get very far into it. Perhaps this might be better read rather than listened to.

I tried…I really did. I had listened to another book by this same author (who I like quite a bit) but this one was just not good. I pushed to get through it but after about three hours, I finally gave up. A wasted credit.

Next thing Cat knows, her uncle, the town sheriff, informs her that the young man's been found dead.

I read the first book and thought I’d try the audible version for the second in the series. Didn’t get past chapter 3…the narrator emphasized every single SYL. LA. BLE. Precisely. In such a way that it was unbearable. A wasted credit.

I Tried
Revisado: 08-13-20
I really tried to like this book...to stick with it. But I couldn't. I lasted about halfway and had to stop. The narration was good, and the story could have been good, but the author used far too many descriptors...describing each and every step the characters took.
And nobody just walked across the room...they bounded, trotted, sped, dashed, spun, darted, rushed. And there was far too many people winking.
I tried though. I really did!

It’s hell on her social life. Abe is the doctor and Sam's partner in crime. He isn’t much of a criminal. Except for the kidney stealing. But he’s using that money to fund his research that he anticipates will be able to cure diabetes. So, all for a good cause...? You decide. Of course, it's hell on his social life.

Historia
Clare Cosi used to manage the historic Village Blend coffeehouse…until she opted for quieter pastures and a more suburban life. But after ten years and a little friendly cajoling from the owner (a fresh pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain was all it took), she's back to the grind. With a sprawling rent-free apartment directly above the Village Blend, her cat Java by her side, and plenty of coffeehouse redecorating ideas, Clare is thrilled to return to work. Until she discovers the assistant manager unconscious in the back of the store, coffee grounds strewn everywhere.

So-So
Revisado: 03-04-20
Despite the overuse of adjectives and descriptions, I slogged along until chapter 9. This I when the main character describes a man bumping into her "pillowy C-cups"
Nope. That did it for me. I enjoy a book with racy content, don't mind swears, and I even like when a book gets a little titillating. This book had none of that, except perhaps a little swearing. But to describe a woman's bosoms as "pillowy" was just too much for me.

Just OK
Revisado: 02-04-20
Without giving away the ending, suffice it to say I was disappointed. There were far too many characters that seemingly didn't have any impact on the plot. Perhaps I missed something, but do we really need to know that the police chief is raising his niece and nephew and the background thereof? One rule in writing is to play fair with the reader and I don't believe that was the case with this book.

Revisiting an old friend
Revisado: 08-06-19
I had read this book (and most of Mary Stewart's other books) decades ago so it was like visiting with an old friend. The writing is wonderful and depicts the area beautifully. The plot tells of a young widowed woman traveling to Provence with a friend. Her dream vacation turns into a nightmare when she becomes involved in helping a young boy escape his father who had been accused of murder.
The only thing that was a bit unsettling was the continued reference to people smoking, which of course was perfectly normal in that time period. But boy did it make me want a cigarette even though I quit almost 20 years ago!

Certified Process Server Jackie Parker could do a case study in bizarre human behavior. Like the time the Damaged Goods property management team found a man fermenting his own fecal matter to get high. Or the angry downstairs tenant who threatened to spit on her. And that was just one building in the Miami Arts District. Returning to the scene of the crime a year later at the request of the landlord, Jackie believes she's ready for anything.

Just OK
Revisado: 05-19-19
The continuing saga of the damaged goods crew...overall the story was good but there were a number of flashbacks that went on for so long, it was confusing. As one reviewer noted, I'm not sure they were absolutely necessary. Suzanne Cerreta does a great job with the narration as always.

Really Like the Series
Revisado: 04-11-19
This is a fun, interesting series. The fourth book in the Holmes & Moriarity series goes a bit deeper into the lives of Kit and JX and therefore, deeper into their respective characters. I love the sense of humor the author imbues in his characters...it makes them more relatable. The narration is perfect. I'm looking forward to the next installment of Holmes & Moriarity!
