Interesting view into the life of bomb squad police officers
Revisado: 10-10-24
I am a huge fan of Robert Crais, especially Pike and Elvis series. He has always delivered best selling, highly emotional page turners. I was running out of his novels to read and decided to try this, one of his earlier books. It’s true that the more you write the better you get. This book was okay, sort of a ghost frame work of what he has become. I’d recommend you buy one of his masterpieces like: “L.A. Requiem.”

Since its release in 1949, The Hero with a Thousand Faces has influenced millions of readers by combining the insights of modern psychology with Joseph Campbell's revolutionary understanding of comparative mythology. In this book, Campbell outlines the Hero's Journey, a universal motif of adventure and transformation that runs through virtually all of the world's mythic traditions. He also explores the Cosmogonic Cycle, the mythic pattern of world creation and destruction.

The meanings behind the stories.
Revisado: 09-17-24
I liked to learn that these stories are actually repeated across so many cultures . It points to the continuity of the human experience and is what is psychologically the baseline of human existence and desires.

A classic of its kind, The Long Gray Line is the 25-year saga of the West Point class of 1966. With a novelist's eye for detail, Rick Atkinson illuminates this powerful story through the lives of three classmates and the women they loved - from the boisterous cadet years, to the fires of Vietnam, to the hard peace and internal struggles that followed the war.

Duty, Honor, Country
Revisado: 09-03-24
This was one of the best books I’ve ever read. It not only delivers the history of the West Point class that was most decimated by war, but provides a look into the souls of courageous men dedicated to pursue honorable. goals in service to their country. I cheered for their dedication as they pursued ambitious goals and cried for them as they died painful deaths. This history shows the dedication it takes to be a soldier.

A classic of Japanese history, this audiobook is the preeminent work on the history of Japan. Newly revised and updated, A History of Japan is a single-volume complete history of the nation of Japan. Starting in ancient Japan during its early pre-history period, A History of Japan covers every important aspect of history and culture through feudal Japan to the post-Cold War period and collapse of the bubble economy in the early 1990s. Good Over of Japanese History
Revisado: 01-05-23
This book provides a good overview of the history of Japan, from wars and economic developments to cultural shifts in the arts (paintings, theatre, woodwork and attitudes toward living a good life and the definition of what makes life worth living, religious developments and changes). The problem is that such a sweeping all inclusive goal requires just listing highlights without details of why it happened. The book provides an excellent outline of Japanese history, which can be followed up with books that provide more content on areas that the reader wants to investigate.

Historia
This Pulitzer Prize-winning history of World War II chronicles the dramatic rise and fall of the Japanese empire, from the invasion of Manchuria and China to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Told from the Japanese perspective, The Rising Sun is, in the author’s words, "a factual saga of people caught up in the flood of the most overwhelming war of mankind, told as it happened - muddled, ennobling, disgraceful, frustrating, full of paradox."

Powerful Telling of the Motivation and Events of Japan During WW II
Revisado: 12-27-22
This book provides a detailed look into the culture of Japan that motivated them to pursue Empire building, which lead them to attack nations of vastly superior war capabilities and the calamitous results. Driven by their sense of samurai honor they become enmeshed in a situation from which their sense of honor will not allow them to withdraw. So, even when everyone realizes they cannot win, their culture and honor prevents them from pursuing peace talks.
This book provided me with a deep understanding of the Japanese and the events of World War II. It is truly a masterpiece.
