Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
The critically acclaimed author of The Radleys shares a clever, heartwarming, and darkly insightful novel about an alien who comes to Earth to save humans from themselves. When an extraterrestrial visitor arrives on Earth, his first impressions of the human species are less than positive. But as time goes on, he starts to realize there may be more to this weird species than he has been led to believe. Eventually, the narrator sees hope and redemption in the humans' imperfections and begins to question the very mission that brought him there.

I started off a skeptic and ended up loving it.
Revisado: 09-30-21
The first few chapters I nearly gave up thinking I knew exactly what it was going to be. Boy was I wrong. This had me to the point where I simply did not want it to end, in fact, it may be one of my favorite books now. The funny stuff is clever but the heart of it is WOW. The narrator seemed a perfect choice, I couldn't imagine Andrew Martin with any other voice.
I'm going to use my next Audible credit for something else by this author now.

Interim sheriff Elizabeth "Bet" Rivers has always had one repeat nightmare: a shadowy figure throwing a suspicious object into her hometown lake in Collier, Washington. For the longest time, she chalked it up to an overactive imagination as a kid. Then the report arrives. In the woods of the Cascade mountain range, right in her jurisdiction, a body floats to the surface of Lake Collier. When the body is extricated and revealed, no one can identify Jane Doe. But someone must know the woman, so why aren't they coming forward?

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Revisado: 06-01-21
This was amazing, I was riveted from the beginning. The story is brilliant, the writing is stellar and the narrator deserves an Oscar for his performance. Seriously, I want him to read all the books from here on out. I cannot overstate just how good this is.

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

On my top ten list of favorite novels
Revisado: 09-29-20
This book is everything I love about novels. The story is charming, witty, fascinating and with the most satisfying ending of any book I've read. The narrator is why I found this book. I loved his reading of Connie Willis' "To Say Nothing of the Dog," and looked for something else read by him. He reads this one just as brilliantly.
What a wonderful find, I couldn't have been happier with a purchase.

Much better than I expected
Revisado: 07-25-20
It's more a family saga, albeit a super dysfunctional family. I liked getting all the history of all the major players. She sets the time and place pretty firmly and I found myself pulled into it almost like a work of fiction. How could such a breathtakingly morally and intellectually stunted man rise to the most powerful office in the world? The answer, he had a lot of help.

Not your father's Don Quixote
Revisado: 07-25-20
When the Man of La Mancha comes to Huntsville AL and even finds a windmill to tilt you know it's going to be like no other book you've listened to.
Don finds himself on a mission to save his world from all its ills with his very own Sancho, Dulcinea and a cast of fun, quirky and definitely unforgettable characters. But soon, real life, the Atomic Age, threaten our timeless hero in ways that will have you laughing and hanging out in the driveway for the few extra minutes to get to the next chapter.
The narrator is very good at bringing all the characters to life and giving them each their own personality
All in all, a very enjoyable listen.

Only my second Neil Gaiman and I don't know what took me so long. This story has everything a story should. It's classic storytelling and so much more. Love, adventure, danger, triumph. I cannot imagine a single person not loving this book.
The narrator was so good, I believed he was telling his own story.
