I’m a huge fan of this author and she does not disappoint. Love comes when we least expect it and that’s the best kind. When you’re not looking for it. Similar life experiences and personalities make for better partners. Joy was my favorite character and I wish there was a story where she was the main character. Fun read.

I did not like this book. It was depressing and such a slow burn. I dreaded having to listen to it…. But bookclub is bookclub and it helps you branch out. The only light of joy in this entire book was Mama Pearl. But I was so happy finish.

I thought I had it all figured out. Behaviors can be deceiving. Nice read although it could have been shorter… I had to fast forward in some long drawn out places, but otherwise a solid read.

I wish no one had recommended this book to me. What a waste of my time. It went on and on and on and it was so disappointing. I know the author thought she was doing bing things but sorry you did not. I want my credit back. Ugh

For those of you who have read Aleksandr Voinov's works, you will not be disappointed with this novella. I'm consistently impressed with how Voinov weaves a tale by evoking emotion through a character's thoughts, feelings, and actions. It's no easy feat to make a character both flawed and yet persevering. I think that's why I find myself enjoying this tale. It's the common tale of trying to conform oneself to the ideals of society, but in doing so, abandon the essence of your being. We all can relate to feeling that 'pressure' to be like everyone else, and sometimes you need to be reminded that even though you're not the 'ideal', you're still loved by someone, just because you're you. William finally comes to terms with his desires and needs. He just needed some gentle prodding by Guy... a little rough sex never hurt anyone. *wink* I have to admit, I'm a sucker for any type of 'hot and heavy' in a barn. ha.

This is a cautionary review.

As a fellow audio book lover, I implore you, DO NOT pay for this audio. Do not even THINK about listening to this audio. You need to RUN away from this audio. In fact, Audible needs to REMOVE this audio... immediately.

Lets be clear, the book wasn't fantastic to begin with, but listening to Trevor Clinger was excruciating. He gave me a migraine. I couldn't even finish the book. It was awful, and I mean awful. I would rather go to the dentist for three root canals, than be forced to listen to anything else he narrates.

I listen to a LOT of audio books, and some narrators drone on and on in a monotone, but this narrator wasn't just flat, he made every scene more painful than the last! The narrator pauses after EACH word. EACH word!! I don't know how he didn't hyperventilate!! I'm starting to have a panic attack just thinking about what I endured while trying to finish this audio.

Here's a sample of the narrator's style:
"Ethan *pause* knew *pause* Remy *pause* was *pause* special *pause* as *pause* soon *pause* as *pause* he *pause* met *pause* him *pause*."

It was probably painful just reading his words. Trust me, his audio is a thousand times worse.Honestly, it's low price is not worth the pain you will suffer while listening. I think his narrating will haunt me for the rest of my life.My goal is to spare you the pain.

RUN...

I love Josh Lanyon!!

I will ALWAYS have him on auto purchase. So let it be known, you can't go wrong when you see Josh's name behind a literary piece. That being said, I was waiting for this book to come out on audio, and I'm oh so glad that it did. Jeremy York's tone and inflection was spot on. I was easily lulled into the fantasy world that Lanyon always manages to create. I laughed more than I expected because I'm always pleased to hear/read Lanyon's character's witty charm and snarky commentary brought to life. The images and feelings he conjured up yet again allowed me to envision life among the Arlingtons. ( I will ALWAYS feel that excessively rich people are crazy! I said it.) That aside, I could easily identify with Pierce because I'm a bit of a control freak, and I could see why Pierce couldn't NOT find himself attracted to Griff and why Griff was drawn to Pierce.

As I've come to expect with Lanyon, there's always a good mystery to delve into with a smidge of romance and steamy scenes to curl your toes. I solved the mystery, well... part of it, a few chapters in, which allowed me to really focus on the developing relationship between Griff and Pierce. I think my favorite scene was when Griff says: "Your sister says you have trust issues. My ex says I have intimacy issues. I wonder if that's the same thing?" To which Pierce replies: " No. Intimacy issues' is code for ' I haven't met the right person." Which leads Griff to ask: " What is 'trust issues' code for?" And Pierce replies: " I'm afraid to believe I've met the right person."
*deep breath*
GOTTA LOVE LANYON.

He pierces right through my heart with scenes and words like these. I can't get enough, and will always be loyal to the literary genius I've come to adore.
Listen to the audio or read the book, you won't be disappointed.
BRAVO.

I flippin LOVED this book. LOVED IT!!! I mean, I loved it SO much that even though I just finished it, I'm going to listen to it AGAIN. And I just don't do that. Ever. I don't know who R.D. Hero is, but s/he is my m/m author hero!!! FANTASTIC LISTEN. Ok... enough fanfare.... This story is all about its title, and it is worth a credit, cash, whatever... JUST GET IT.

Michael Stellman is a great reader. I’ll be on the lookout for more of his stuff.

As for characters, meet Abel, Twinky Stalker/Photographer extraordinaire who is stalking Eric, the typical virile college football Hercules in the flesh. And last, but certainly not least, meet Pacer, Hercules' buff BFF and football teammate, who has unwavering high self-esteem, and a persistent, dominating personality complex to boot!! Oh and he has his sights set on Abel. WATCH OUT! LOLOL Can I just say how much I admire Pacer. I certainly wish I had been just as secure in who I was, and what I wanted when I was his age. (I need a time machine!)

Anyway, I won't give up all the details, but I will mention the things I appreciated most about this book. I love reading about personal growth, sexual exploration, messing up, but being an adult about it and actually apologizing! Then there’s the always heart-warming idea of finding someone-- friend or lover--who you can be 'more' honest and more like the 'real' you when around him.

In addition, it’s a delight to read stories where just as it is true in real life, 'story' life NEVER goes according to plan. How about the realization that love, or the possibility of love, can and probably will be a messy (but fun) adventure. Oh and of course, the notion that it really is OK to make mistakes -- I mean, look at me, I make a LOT of them!! Think about it, how else would you end up with a happy-ish ending?

Thanks R.D!!!
