Cultivate, get skills, grow abilities, or die. His old life, as a combat medic, had been hard, but he had learned some valuable lessons. And he wasn’t alone. His best friend, a marine recon sniper, like always, was right by his side. Could they figure out this fantasy world? What does it mean to ascend? How will they master the magic of this strange place?

Historia
Even when finding oneself engaged in interstellar war, good form must be observed. Our story is set thousands of years after the Terran Exodus, where two powerful, planet-dominating families - the elegant House Jakabitus and the less refined Hahn Empire - have reached a critical point in their generations-long war. Master Hennik, the Hahn ruler's only son, has been captured, and the disposition of his internment may represent a last and welcome chance for peace.

No really interesting more ridiculous
Revisado: 02-19-19
In a word ridiculous, complete waste of time, if you must listen, you can skip the first 10 hours or so, the last 5 at least move the story along without too much idiocy about the formalities. PS liked his off to be a wizard series which is why i picked up this "book"

Historia
We all have inner demons. We fight them all the time. Some of us achieve inner peace by coming to terms with them. But how do you come to terms with inner demons that tear free and become outer demons? Eric has been a vampire for nearly a century, and his demons are more than metaphors. While they controlled him, he was the Demon King. Now he has to avoid the monsters in his own mind, as well as angry nobles, fanatical religions, assassins, magi, other vampires, criminal organizations, and more.

Not sure what many are complaining about
Revisado: 06-26-17
Lots of reviews that the story went nowhere etc. Ok yes/no/maybe some truth to that but if you listened to the other two you will probably like this one as well.

First work in a continuing series about a wizard
Revisado: 02-17-16
I decided to revisit the entire series so this is the first book which introduces us to Harry Dresden the only practicing wizard in Chicago (with a yellow pages ad no less). We are also introduced to some enduring characters in the series, Susan, John Marcon, Karen Murphy and others.
Harry is just really getting developed in this story and we see hints of what he will become in future outings but is really quite limited compared to what he is in later installments of the series.
The story is well thought out and enjoyable, well worth the investment in both time and money in my opinion, if you are looking for a good series to get engrossed in for some time this is a good option. I think this one is good on its own but the story only gets better from here.

Yes there are sexual situations and suggestions
Revisado: 12-11-15
Don't know what all the fuss in the other reviews is about it was tame and in keeping with the story line. based on some reviews I expected non stop orgy descriptions.
Enjoyed it, good story and good reader.
