Historia
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Great story, that may have been impacted by an actors strike
Revisado: 03-03-25
For example... Three chapters in a row, three different actors voicing Baron Harkkonnen. You can get by this strangeness but it is a distraction. Made me feel like they pulled in anybody they could find to read as if they had to move from those in the union, to those that weren't. The main narrator was great.

Historia
In a world full to bursting with would-be heroes, Jim couldn't be less interested in saving the day. His fireballs fizzle. He's awfully grumpy. Plus, he's been dead for about sixty years. When a renegade necromancer wrenches him from eternal slumber and into a world gone terribly, bizarrely wrong, all Jim wants is to find a way to die properly, once and for all. On his side, he's got a few shambling corpses, an inept thief, and a powerful death wish. But he's up against tough odds....

Less murder mystery, more historical textbook story
Revisado: 02-03-24
I liked the book as I'm an Engineer and enjoy history, and as I think back on the book, the substories of the Kaiser, Rockefeller, late 1800 early 1900's ecomomic market conditions, tensions in Europe between governments, manufacturing details, etc.. were all important to the overall narrative, but for me, those substories made the pendulum of this book swing away from why I wanted to read it. But the later part, and the theory of Diesel's disappearance hit the spot and why I give the book a favorable rating.

Historia
Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandment finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, becomes something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future. Except the discovery of their bond would mean the death of each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win. That’s how war works, right?

Historia
While conducting exploration in the frozen Arctic, Texan Lew McCardle, a geologist working for the Houghton Oil company, discovers something remarkable: a body encased in the ice. More remarkable still, the skills of Russian researcher Semyon Petrovitch bring the man miraculously back to life. This strange visitor from the distant past has an amazing story to tell. Translated from his native Latin by Nordic nun Olava, Lucius Aurelius Eugenianus reveals that in the era of Domitian he was a champion in the Roman Colosseum, a gladiator known far and wide.

The Jurassic Park of Ancient Rome?
Revisado: 05-06-22
Haven't listened to a book like this before and thus very thought provoking. What if you were awaken 2000 years after your "normal" time on earth? How would you react? Who would believe what you said you were in the past? This book combines a modern medical miracle with an interesting perspective of how, for lack of a better description, how times, views on life, morals, religions, govenments and people have, and haven't changed.

Historia
The man on the moon was dead. They called him Charlie. He had big eyes, abundant body hair, and fairly long nostrils. His skeletal body was found clad in a bright red spacesuit, hidden in a rocky grave. They didn’t know who he was, how he got there, or what had killed him. All they knew was that his corpse was 50 thousand years old - and that meant this man had somehow lived long before he ever could have existed.

No Vendetta Here
Revisado: 07-28-20
I liked it till the last chapter and Epilogue when the author gave her deeply negative opinion of how Donald Trump was responsible in her opinion for all the Worlds woes. I'm sorry her grandfather like Donald more than her father, I'm sorry that her father Freddy had such an awful life trying to live up to his father's expectations and died at a young age, and I'm sorry she got cut out of the will because her grandfather was a jerk. I bought the book to get insight into Donald's background, not be preached to by the author.

We are familiar with maps that outline all 50 states. And we are also familiar with the idea that the United States is an "empire", exercising power around the world. But what about the actual territories - the islands, atolls, and archipelagos - this country has governed and inhabited? In How to Hide an Empire, author Daniel Immerwahr tells the fascinating story of the United States outside the United States. In crackling, fast-paced prose, he reveals forgotten episodes that cast American history in a new light.

Perspective of what the US did wrong in history
Revisado: 05-05-20
Interesting. I learned alot I didn't know, never was taught in school or even thought about (which was the key goal of the book), but from the negative viewpoint. Covered how we treated the Native Americans, to our blunders in the Philippines and Puerto Rico, to our racist view of non-whites not in the lower 48, to our willingness to abandon our citizens in far flung territories like Guam if push ever came to shove. Sprinkled in were topics like how "we/the US" influenced The Beatles, how we overcame the rubber shortage in WWII, medical experimentation on pwople, and James Bond & the Guano Islands. Somewhat of a bitter history pill to swallow but I never abandoned the book before the end, too much new stuff to hear and think about.
