Historia
With an ailing mother to care for, Lisa Grant takes the first job she can find: research assistant to District Attorney Scott Buchanan. What Lisa expects to be a mind-numbingly boring task turns into anything but when a missing-persons case draws her attention. The details of the case are engrossing: an entire family — father, mother, and two children — disappeared without a trace more than 28 years ago. Except that’s not all: the mother in a photo Lisa finds could be her own twin.

Far too Long
Revisado: 07-08-21
Way, way way too long. Plot ok, but story could have been presented in1/3-1/2 as much time. Extraneous, boring detail. Also very predictable. Won’t read this author again. Should have paid more attention to reviews.

Another Very Nice Book by this Author.
Revisado: 06-25-21
Not her best. But another uplifting story depicting normal emotions of family, life, belonging, even loneliness and fear in a natural lifelike environment. A book that leaves you with a sense of peace and satisfaction. Thanks

Historia
Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her. While police suspect Jeff of "instant divorce," Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won't even tell her his name.

Remembered Why I Stopped Reading This Author
Revisado: 06-08-16
Interesting plot. Keeps your interest. However, I stopped reading this author years ago and won't read her again. She absolutely ruins every sex scene with far too much information LEaves nothing to the imagination. TUrns an otherwise perfectly good story into a sleazy, cheap novel. Too bad authors see this as necessary.

Interesting story. Bad narrator. Totally unsatisfactory ending - only intended to suck you into sequels. Will never read another book by this author! Do not appreciate the misleading reviews!

What was most disappointing about Alexander McCall Smith’s story?
Simply couldn't follow the narrative. Most uninteresting.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Robert Ian Mackenzie?
Would depend upon book.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Nothing!
Any additional comments?
Not my kind of book. I depend upon other reviews. Didn't find them helpful.

Couldn't get into it
Revisado: 06-15-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Perhaps people who enjoy historical fiction
Has Painting the Darkness turned you off from other books in this genre?
Probably
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Michael Kitchen?
Don't know that much about British narrators.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Couldn't get far enough along. Simply didn't hold my interest.
Any additional comments?
I found the plot uninteresting, predictable and too slow moving. Decided to try it because of all the good reviews but it really wasn't for me!

Don't agree with other Reviews
Revisado: 12-19-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Obviously since I don't agree with all those wonderful reviews, I have no idea. Perhaps someone who loves interminable detail.
Has The Witness turned you off from other books in this genre?
Definitely no more a Nora Roberts, either in print or audible. I'll never get through this one, never mind another like it!
How could the performance have been better?
Shorter - more action - less narrative (description).
What character would you cut from The Witness?
All of them!
Any additional comments?
Hate to hear a women narrating a man's role. Woman for man, not so bad! Silly plot!
