Loved It!
Revisado: 03-15-22
What an absolutely fun listen! The acting is wonderful, the story is campy but convoluted, and I never knew what was coming next. I enjoyed it a lot!

Historia
When a grisly murder occurs on the Isle of Lewis that bears similarities to a brutal killing on the mainland, Edinburgh detective Fin Macleod is dispatched to the Outer Hebrides to investigate, embarking at the same time on a voyage into his own troubled past. As Fin reconnects with the people and places of his tortured childhood, the beautiful island and its ancient customs once again begin to assert their grip on his psyche. Every step toward solving the case brings Fin closer to a confrontation with the dark events of the past that shaped - and nearly destroyed - his life.

unimpressive
Revisado: 02-22-20
The story was odd. The characters acted so oddly, I was yelling at the audio for them to shape up. The narrator didn't grab me, his voice and inflections were off. I finished the book, but won't read another in the series. very disappointed.

Others, meanwhile, seem intent on getting him to leave the force altogether.

Superb Narration and Engaging Characters
Revisado: 02-20-19
This is the second book I've listened to in this series and I highly recommend them! The story is interesting, the characters very believable and engaging, and the narrator really lifts the material above the usual. For fans of "nice" British police mysteries, this book is a true pleasure. The plot is simple, yet involved -- there's a suspicion early on about what happened, but the author keeps you guessing until the last as to whether or not the initial supposition was correct. I can't say enough good things about the narrator, Gildart Jackson! There is a scene in this book where Sgt Smith's "big" Boss interviews a person of interest that Smith has already interviewed. The narration of that interview is nothing short of pure genius, and it was a distinct pleasure to listen to every word and nuance. Absolutely spot-on with each character, and I haven't listened to (or read) anything I've enjoyed as much as I did this for quite a while.

He's a loner and a high school dropout, his unassuming nature disguising a relentless determination and a fierce intelligence.

cliches galore
Revisado: 09-03-18
I actually can't believe I listened to this book all the way through. The writing is mediocre, the story full of cliches and ridiculous plot points, and the narrator was terrible. Really disappointed.
