Historia
My husband is dead. I attended his funeral. I watched his casket be lowered six feet into the ground. (Actually, it may have been only five feet, but that still seems like more than enough.) And then we ate an array of finger sandwiches and deviled eggs and miniature beef wellingtons that cost more than my first car. My point is, Grant is gone. And so are all his many, many deep, dark secrets which I never really ever bothered to ask him about. He is never coming back.

funny, oddly wholesome and wastes no time at all. simply what I want in a story. first book I've listened all the way through to the end in one sitting. absolutely wonderful and the (spoiler) narrative trick it uses by making you think it has a continuity error whem on reality it was a hint at the twist was amazing. wimpy amazing.
although to be fair, it's a little preachy at times and struggles to juggle its wide cast. but that's my only issues besides the narrator being bland.

Historia
With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld. A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched.

Historia
Composed in the last years of Roberto Bolaño's life, 2666 was greeted across Europe and Latin America as his highest achievement, surpassing even his previous work in its strangeness, beauty, and scope. Its throng of unforgettable characters includes academics and convicts, an American sportswriter, an elusive German novelist, and a teenage student and her widowed, mentally unstable father. Their lives intersect in the urban sprawl of Santa Teresa - a fictional Juárez - on the U.S.-Mexico border.

let me explain
Revisado: 11-26-22
explain and explain. this is sci-fi so there is the assumption of scientific discussion, but the first half of this story is shoving exposition into your face, it doesn't end until you get into the town and then kicks back up for an hour after you leave before things get interesting again. I only finished the thing because I was listening to it at work and couldn't change it. the story does get good but honestly is not worth sitting through the first third of info dumping

Historia
In a Tokyo suburb, a young man named Toru Okada searches for his wife’s missing cat—and then for his wife as well—in a netherworld beneath the city’s placid surface. As these searches intersect, he encounters a bizarre group of allies and antagonists. Gripping, prophetic, and suffused with comedy and menace, this is one of Haruki Murakami’s most acclaimed and beloved novels.

half intellectual, half written with one hand.
Revisado: 11-21-22
I was rather enjoying myself with the book, very much like we're it was going and how it left alot to the imagination. and I would like to state that I have read many books with rape in it, (Chandler Morrison, Richard Wright, Natsuto Kirino, ect.) so I can take rape in a story. this author uses rape as a filler. that's all it's feels like. at best he needed something bad to happen and threw in rape and at worst I think he got off to it. least to say it didn't sit well with me, although it takes more then offense for me to give a negative score. but the plentiful amounts of rape just felt pointless and bought the story down.

fun with great world building
Revisado: 11-18-22
A fun book that should be a lesson 101 for world building. Truly amazing, I didn't need to guess where everything was. It came out so organically and naturally. Loved how the story's interconnect and tie in together. The action scene are fun and dynamic, (except for the last one in pixieland and the council which made such a leap in logic of how people acted it was comical) Amazing… but the book fails one of the major themes it tries to do and is open about doing.
They Try to make you feel bad for some of the people in the pirates and fails. The book starts off with insinuating that the shop girls were just as bad as the pirates. But they only did shit in self defense, they weren't a bunch of psycho rapist torturers, and I don't buy for a second there were 0 rapes like the book keeps insisting on.
the book talks about how "nobody was a monster" and… Nah I wanted a lot of the people (all of the pirates) there skinned alive, and boiled In lemon juice for the shit they did. Fails miserably to elicit sympathy for the villains. Nobody feels bad for the choir boys from Lord of the flies, this book shows them do shit ten times worse than the stuff in lord of the flies but then says "hey, they were really sad for what happened to piggie…"

biggest mixed bag I've delt with
Revisado: 11-16-22
Amazing high points brought down with the fact that outside the key moments they either put way to much detail into stuff that doesn't matter (IE the Lazer engraver) or not putting enough focus onto a topic (one of the band mates gets a heavy infected wound and i forgot about it until they brought it up again) which brings this down heavily. I can't say I don't recommend it. I do, you should read this, I might re-read it at some point. But I honestly can't give it higher then a three.

This mesmerizing novel tells the story of a brutal murder in the staid Tokyo suburbs, as a young mother who works the night shift making boxed lunches strangles her abusive husband and then seeks the help of her coworkers to dispose of the body and cover up her crime. The coolly intelligent Masako emerges as the plot's ringleader but quickly discovers that this killing is merely the beginning, as it leads to a terrifying foray into the violent underbelly of Japanese society.

and now: my thoughts as the book ended
Revisado: 11-04-22
"is this it? this is how we're ending this?!? there are so many plot holes I don't know if I was listening to this book or a how to make Swiss cheese guide! did I really listen for 18 hours for this!?!" followed by loud screaming for several minutes.
though 17 out of those 18 hours where amazing. could have easily become my favorite book if it wasn't for how much is left unresolved.

pretentious hogwash
Revisado: 10-28-22
this book has a ego. a massive ego. from the pointless 4th wall breaks in the beginning and end to the fact everyone compliments how good one character writing is (who's writing takes up the majority of the book) and the annoying cowboy motif with the baby and dad that is spelled out for you as if you are a two year old just made this a horrible and agonizing listen during my nine to five. only reason it has two stars is that I still believe the author atleast tried, and I only give one's to book that I think the author didn't even try.
