Julie Otsuka's book takes the reader into the lives of a small Japanese American family as they are 'evacuated' and interned in a camp throughout World War two and then on to their return to civilization after the war. The story with bring tears, anger, questions, and greater vision to the reader. The author dealt with this delicate subject with great dignity and grace. The journey taken was enlightening and the imagery used throughout was insightful and memorable. Best book club read of the year.

Characters are delightful, story engaging and filled with non stop laughs.
What does Victor Garber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Victor brings each character to life in such a way that you can't help but smile. Harold and Chester are better than Abbott and Costello as they work a routine.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes- the whole family listened together on a family road trip. It pleased our college freshman just as much as our third grader.

Our children will read this with their children someday!
