Helpful
Revisado: 03-07-07
One reviewer noted this is only for CEOs etc, and there is a point to that. This book asks people to think big. It may be bigger than you'll ever be, but nevertheless, if you gone through a few of these books, this one is a another to try and draw some know from. I wouldn't recommend it for a first book of this kind. Go for Getting Things Done by David Allen

Medition for you!
Revisado: 02-05-07
I've found his explanation of meditation and the exercises he has provided in this book to be helpful. I'm still hooked on the first meditation exercise "Global Relaxation". One tip, which I don't think he mentions specifically, you have to be sitting up to meditate, if you lie down, once you start getting deeper into that peaceful state, you can't help but dose off. Buy it, you'll enjoy it!

I wasn't sure about this author, but this is the second book of hers that I've read and found them both worthwhile. She has some solid suggestions for what to consider when getting into a relationship.

little in terms of science fiction
Revisado: 02-05-07
Science fiction sets the premise for the time travel, the other 80% of the book is a history lesson. I did not like it. I would recommend his other book Prey about nanotechnology if you like science fiction

Historia
Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus, which launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon. Atlas Shrugged emerged as a premier moral apologia for capitalism, a defense that had an electrifying effect on millions of readers (and now listeners) who have never heard capitalism defended in other than technical terms.

Original, thought provoking, inspiring
Revisado: 11-30-05
Some great dialogues(the ones on money and on sex are brilliant) in this book and interesting story. It previews the growing 'culture of excuses' that was developing in America even back then and her disdain for that lack of accountability that resulted.
The book is inspirational for an idealist capitalist. She is able to show the consequential benevolence of an honest, innovative industrialist. Only an honest business person with superior products/services will prosper if the government lets them. She is definitely a pro-business libertarian.
I was pleased by the feminist implications of the book, as the main character is a dedicated, brave, brilliant, and powerful business women. She hasn't lost touch of her feminity while maintaining respect among her associates and fear among her opponents.
It's a must for any philosophy buffs and the storyline keeps you interested. The revolutionary invention that comes into the story added to the suspense for me. The lost glory of the railroads is on display in this book.
One critique I would have of the book were the corny, one sided conversations. She the technique several times where the character is on the phone or whatever and basically repeats what the unhear character has said to them. It's silly because it's so unnatural, people never speak like that. I think maybe that was a popular film/literary technique back in 57, but people have figured out better ways of relaying the information since then.
I haven't read her other famoous book The Fountainhead yet, but I saw the film. Check it out if you like Gary Cooper. I was intrigued by his character as well. Rand wrote the screenplay adaptation, so I'm sure its in line with the book.
