Intense Action and Speculative Fiction in the tradition of the pulps

The fast brief work is still a balanced character study and teased a greater political drama. The technical details stand out and the full voice cast delivers.

The daughter of a Legion war hero, fighting was in Andien Broxin's blood. But the battles Republic marines face on strange and alien worlds are a far cry from the vaunted, brutal, no-holds-barred conflicts fought at the edge of the galaxy by the elite legionnaires. Until a devastating war erupts right in the Republic’s stellar backyard. Newly stationed on a mid-core planet being harassed by terrorist revolutionaries, Andien and her fellow “hullbusters” find themselves right in the middle of a desperate fight for survival.

Historia
From the moment a crazed Nazi Doctor set foot in Chicago, he knew he was in the right place to finish the experiments he had started but never completed. His work began at a death camp, a camp of horrors in which he reigned with his own brand of terror. As soon as he committed his first act against an unsuspecting woman in the city, he knew there'd be a price on his head, and he didn't care. For this Nazi had the most beloved memory a man can have...the feeling of exhilaration as another's fear turns to panic.

lacks the hard and fast pacing of real pulps, meandering reght from the start. this is made worse by a flat read, bland withnbarely any semblance of inflection, let alone alternate character tones & voices. the read sounds the same throughout, whether it's a cop, his bantering partner, a german scientist, an italian new york mobster, or a montana cowboy. every conversation is a confusing mess in audio

Deep-hidden in evil, Satan's Suicide Club sat in council - and men died. What dreadful force drove these men, leaders of society with everything to live for, to end their lives at the behest of that sinister being who sardonically called himself Professor Mephisto? And why did men and women suffer the tortures of the damned, rather than defy this mysterious being? Richard Wentworth once more assumes the cloak of the Spider to free these lost ones from a living hell and a disgraceful death - and steps into the jaws of a devil's trap that casts his life among the lives in pawn!

"Mom, can we buy The Shadow?"
"We have The Shadow at home!"
The Shadow at home:
Even the imitation guns-akimbo sleuths still prove better entertainment than most current-year rot. Still, this novel's plot of suicide/insurance fraud/blackmail (Hey, remember when companies would actually pay out on that?) scope really doesn't hit the havoc-wreaking heights of an Operator #5 or G-8 and His Battle Aces.

Revisado: 06-22-22
returning to this well, while I appreciate A.J. Markam's creative use of powers & conflict, always part of the appeal of novels featuring superhumans, the sex scenes do less to advance plot/character as time goes on, and they happen what feels far too frequently.

A solid story of two-fisted space exploration and... "Air America"-style glowie ops from space combined with the romanticism of medieval warfare forced into an advancing age. Cubans, betrayals, pikemen, damsels in distress, barbarians (but I repeat myself) all come into play.

Historia
The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed best-selling author Scott Kenemore ( Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving.

Excellent novel in the tradition of 60s TV
Revisado: 06-10-22
The self-contained anthology, with the hotel your framing device, makes for a work reminiscent of TV shows like The Night Gallery, The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits with a touch of The Nightmare Cafe from the late 80/early 90s.

Meh outing.
Revisado: 06-08-22
This collaboration of 'New Pulp' sadly lacks the "Wow" factor of so many of the classics they're trying to emulate. The Pulptress heroine remains throughout the stories rather undefined, an intent that hindered the the ability of her adventures to carry the impact of real Pulps.
