Historia
It’s an ordinary Monday. Until everything changes forever. At 2:44 PM, a mysterious crack appears in the sky. Anyone unfortunate enough to look up is immediately struck blind. What’s worse, their mind is wiped clean, replaced with a vicious urge to kill anyone within reach. Mark is at work when it happens. Fighting not to fall asleep, the boring department meeting suddenly turns into a bloodbath when people are drawn to the windows to look up at the sky.

Worst of the worst
Revisado: 05-01-25
I’ve listened to most of the apocalypse books on audible. This was the most wasted credit ever spent. The “descriptive language” sounded like it was generated by an adolescent ChatGPT. The narrator didn’t suck though. He did his best to turn a flaming pile into something..

Historia
Once the streets pull you in, they own you. Or at least that's the way it's been for Nautica. Growing up in the hood, all she's ever known is the fast life - fast money illicitly made through scandals and relentless scheming. But when a big scam nearly finishes her off, she decides she wants more out of life than the hustle and tries to make a new life for herself on the East Coast.

Good story bad writing
Revisado: 09-04-23
Hard to find cold words like these but the writing and it’s lack of attention to detail was distracting. For example, Millie was 14 when she got into the game, but then she was 17, then she looked not a day over 16. Repeat words and poor descriptions. Not to mention the glorification of evil people is the ugly side of drug culture.

Historia
When he left Congress in 2017, Jason Chaffetz still thought elections could save us. For generations, conservatives have hoped that freedom-loving congressional majorities could turn back the tide and restore America’s liberties and prosperity. But now, he says, winning elections will not be enough.

Really important perspective
Revisado: 06-12-23
This is relevant, non-fiction realization of the cogs of the political machine behind a 21st century Atlas Shrugged-esq Democracy-driven dystopian near-future. As a libertarian, I disagree with some arguments, but overall, there are many lightly veiled contradictions and bad-actors unveiled in these pages. The narrator left much to be desired. His poor enunciation of many words, sentences and phrases, as well as his anger and frustration-inducing over-emphasis of his “P’s” made it hard to get through at times. I walked away from the book with a light misting of the narrator’s saliva on my face because of the “pop” he Pronounced with each P in Party and Politic.

Historia
Gut Reactions by chemist Simon Quellen Field shows us how our bodies react to food and the environment, and how our brain affects what and how much we eat, and in turn, is affected by what we eat. It shows why some diets work for some people but not for others, based on genetics, previous weight history, brain chemistry, environmental cues, and social pressures. It explores how dozens of hormones affect hunger and satiety and interact with the brain and the gut to regulate feeding behavior.

Long list
Revisado: 05-28-23
Sounds like the author told Chat GPT-4 to make a list of 1,000 words associated with fat and then had it define them. He then inserted transition words and published this book. Useless

Historia
On a planet where life is cheap, in a city built on corruption, very few things are considered holy. The Landing Site is one of them. The remains of the century-old habitat pod—which delivered the colonists to the only barely habitable place on the cruel world of Croatoan—has become a monument to the hardscrabble people who somehow survived the unsurvivable. So when blood is shed on that sacred ground, it’s seen as an attack against the entire colony.

Historia
Years after clean energy ended the world’s reliance on fossil fuels, a lull of peace encompasses all of humanity. Some think we should travel to the distant corners of the galaxy; others oppose the idea, thinking that the harnessed singularity reactors are unnatural. When a terrorist group attacks the Lunar colony, members of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force are divided as a result of the incursion. Years later, Lieutenant Commander Kyle Torres comes face to face with old friends, as he’s thrown into an assignment that could change everything.

Blade runner in space
Revisado: 03-27-23
Fast-paced and high-tech, near-futuristic military perspective chronicling human expansion beyond the solar system. Narrator had a solid, steady reading voice, but all his “leadership” voices were basically mafioso Zorg charactures. Looking beyond that, definitely worth the listen

Historia
Jack Diller is just one more struggling actor on the road to nowhere. He’s got an agent who barely remembers his name, his ex-girlfriend has hooked up with a Silicon Valley dude, and the milk in his fridge is so far past its sell-by date it’s historic. The only way Jack can scrape together a bare existence is by delivering food to exactly the types of successful people he wishes he could be. Then, one day, a very strange audiobook shows up on his phone.

Historia
In 48 hours, the Earth will be hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure. To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: Global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off. Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it?

More than a few
Revisado: 03-20-23
The author’s favorite, and raggedly abused, phrase to describe anything of plenty. This was the blandest apocalypse I’ve been witness to. He made it clear that he was well-versed in military hardware by dutifully, and repeatedly, reciting the caliber of the guns. There were many allusions to Christian philosophy…I guess this is what this was.

That Ohio is a good place to be FROM. As a former Ohio resident, I can confirm. This foreign documentarian’s tangential interest in backcountry Ohio paints a truly interesting picture of the weird genetic backwaters that occur in middle America. I must admit I listened all the way through
