War and Peace is at once an epic war chronicle and an exploration of everything that make us all human: love and hate, ambition and despair, life and death. Allow yourself to get lost in the lives of three Russian aristocratic families, whose triumphs and challenges are every bit as resonant to today’s listener as they were to original readers. Thandiwe Newton inhabits each character with such flair that it is easy to forget that you are listening to one voice.

An epic retelling of the Napoleon Wars
Revisado: 04-16-25
I truly enjoyed this book, especially all the conversations between Pierre and Andrei. I had access to a free version before and could not stand the narrator (it is very rare for me) so I never listened to more than one chapter. This narrator did a great job!
I especially loved the second epilogue. it's worth reaching the end just for that.

Revisado: 01-28-24

Elf and Yoli are sisters. While on the surface Elfrieda's life is enviable (she's a world-renowned pianist, glamorous, wealthy, and happily married,) and Yolandi's a mess (she's divorced and broke, with two teenagers growing up too quickly), they are fiercely close - raised in a Mennonite household and sharing the hardship of Elf's desire to end her life.

So slow and boring!
Revisado: 07-28-23
This is one of the most boring books I have ever listened to! I understand that the author touches on a difficult subject, and I normally appreciate that in a story. The book dealing with suicide, I obviously was not expecting an upbeat or fun book, but this was just so monotone and it dragged on for way too long (think: listening to a song with just one or two notes = monotone indeed). Wow, am I glad this is over!

100 complaints from a privileged white writer
Revisado: 05-27-22
So. much. whining.
I did not mind the writing or narration but the content is cringe-worthy. This writer complains throughout the entire book! Yes, she's going through a tough-time, but is it worth a book? I did not learn anything or ever felt bad for them (privilege, privilege, privilege!). They cannot afford to get a second serving of ice cream?! They can only go to ONE theme park while visiting Florida for their winter break!?! The WiFi is out for one day!?! I could go on and on, I was not joking with my tag line!
Audible, it is also your responsibility! Time to hear stories by people who struggle with real problems, or lived experiences that made them grow...

Historia
Maggie Nelson's The Argonauts is a genre-bending memoir, a work of "autotheory" offering fresh, fierce, and timely thinking about desire, identity, and the limitations and possibilities of love and language. At its center is a romance: the story of the author's relationship with the artist Harry Dodge. This story, which includes Nelson's account of falling in love with Dodge, who is fluidly gendered, as well as her journey to and through a pregnancy, is an intimate portrayal of the complexities and joys of (queer) family making.

So slow and monotone narrator/writer
Revisado: 05-18-22
I wanted to love this book (topic really interests me and I had heard great things) but I found it very disappointing. I started listening to it about a year ago and could not even get through half. I gave it another try about a year later, listening at x2 speed this time (instead of my normal x1.5-8), and I was able to finish it but I feel like I just lost 2 hours I will never get back (could have been 4+ at normal speed!).
Writing is slow and unorganized with lots of quotes (that probably works better in a written version). Some ideas and experiences are interesting but the author should have realized that someone else had to narrate this book, it would have made it so much more lively.
I would recommend to read the book version. Audible should invest in re-recording this audiobook.

In this poignant audio piece, Samantha Allen takes listeners along for the wild ride of her own transition: The good, the bad, but mostly, the funny. Because once she began this life-changing journey in earnest, Samantha realized that while the emotional trials of gender dysphoria and self-discovery could be harrowing, there were so many laugh-out-loud moments along this winding road.

Amazing read
Revisado: 03-25-22
I absolutely loved this Audible original and would recommend for everyone to listen to it.
I do not read synopsis so never know what a "book" is about. I do love to read about all aspects of the LGBTQ+ community, and especially learn more about trans rights/experiences/opinions, so I guess I may be biased. So I started this book not knowing at all what it was about and now I just want to read any and everything Samantha Allen has ever published. She is such a fantastic writer (and, in this case, narrator!), the subject of the book is a bonus! She is funny, but especially candid in this book, and I hope everyone who listens to this audiobook can learn to be more tolerant/accepting of differences (whatever they may be!)
Great work and cannot wait to listen to more.

Revisado: 02-07-22
This was a great crime story! I really enjoyed the narration, as well as the dual storyline. It was a great audiobook from start to finish, it seems like the plot was well thought of prior to even starting writing the book. Would highly recommend to anyone who likes this genre.

Historia
Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months - ever since I caught my can’t-be-soon-enough-ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I’m 35 years old, and I’ve lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity. But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who’s ever gotten me. Even after death, though, she’s helping me get back up again. Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house.

Expected romantic comedy
Revisado: 02-07-22
This audiobook was entertaining, but that is pretty much it. Everything was very expected. As far as romantic comedies go, I am kind of tired of the very boring and unbelievable scenario of 1 gal pursued by two+ men. In real life, it's hard enough to find one decent guy, these heroins happen to find, at least, two wonderful men and struggle to choose one!?!! Do some people actually like that? I'm kind of tired of it and would much prefer something a little more realistic. I actually have been enjoying LGBTQ+ romantic comedies much more lately because they are often much more relatable (even though I am a heterosexual cisgender woman!)
Time to upgrade those romantic comedies to this millennium!

As a teen, Daymond John immersed himself in the burgeoning rap scene and quickly started to recognize that the people in the hip-hop community were being ignored and even looked down upon by major players in the fashion industry. Frustrated with this disconnect and passionate about the hip-hop community and culture, John and three of his best childhood friends started the iconic fashion label FUBU (For Us By Us) in John’s mother’s home in Queens.

Work hard to obtain success
Revisado: 02-07-22
I must be the only person not familiar with the author and/or brand! I got into this audiobook without knowing anything about FUBU: never heard of it! or Daymond John: I realized he was an investor on shark tank (although I've never watched that show, I know of it) two thirds into the book.
Nonetheless, I appreciated the story. It's a story of finding success, working hard, starting from nothing, supporting your own community, etc.
This audiobook comes out perfectly in time for the re-launch of FUBU and the brand trying to regain popularity...

Historia
Shelby works as a dog walker in northern California, and she’s just finished up her bi-weekly trip to the park with a husky named Pluto. When she brings him back to his house, she finds his owner - Todd Burke, a well-known local businessman and founder of an organic supplements company - lying on the bathroom floor, dead. A detective arrives on the scene. As she interviews Shelby, the body is inspected by a medical examiner, and more cops search Todd’s home, it becomes clear that the victim’s life was less picture-perfect than his clean-cut persona might lead you to believe.

A crime story for dog lovers!
Revisado: 02-07-22
I found this novela entertaining and funny (be ready for some dark humor!)
As a person who fosters a lot of dogs, on top of the two I already have, I really enjoyed this novela!
I normally enjoy longer stories but this was witty, entertaining, straight to the point, and I really enjoyed it. Would recommend to anybody who loves pets and crime stories.
